I grew up in an environment of public service, with the idea that you cannot tolerate injustice. It riles me up, when I see injustice being done to someone: @RahulGandhi
When we were in govt, we had a feedback system which enabled effective governance. That feedback system is not there now. The current regime's style of governance is centralised, it's the idea that believes that centralised power understands everything : @RahulGandhi
Because there is no feedback system now & centralised style of governance, people are forced to come out on the streets to protest, this is also why unplanned lockdown is imposed, decisions are taken without consultation and planning: @RahulGandhi
The current regime's ability to put it's narrative across so forcefully through control of the media, automatically stops it from listening: @RahulGandhi
There is a wholesale capture of the institutional framework of the country. In Assam, there are videos of BJP candidates running around with voting machines in their cars but there is no news in the national media: @RahulGandhi
We are in a different paradigm as compared to 2014. The institutions which are supposed to protect us, support a fair political fight, do not do so anymore: @RahulGandhi
The only option now is to put money in the hands of the people. We have a concept called NYAY, a variant of universal basic income, that would be one element of it: @RahulGandhi
When we were in govt, our programme MGNREGA injected money into the rural economy, which in turn boosted the urban economy. It was hugely criticised at the time of implementation but later everyone realised it's benefits: @RahulGandhi
Modi govt crippled the economy through Demonetization and faulty GST, crippled the job creation engine (MSMEs), and the govt is unleashing these massive monopolies in which 2-3 people control businesses: @RahulGandhi
Student: What would be your priority if you were the PM?
If I were the PM, I would move from a growth centric idea to a job centric idea. Yes, we need growth, but we would do everything to create jobs: @RahulGandhi
