To reiterate, the problem started when Nigeria's Telco body ALTON threatened to disconnect banks from USSD services over an accumulated debt of N42bn

The banks have refused to sign off on an agreement to pass USSD charges on to customers since 2019 because they want the agreement to include "end user billing" so they can keep on collecting revenues and boosting their profit margins. 
Working together in a cartel with the sole exception of Zenith Bank which has a direct relationship with MTN, the banks then made the decision to disconnect MTN users from USSD banking services - without notifying anyone or releasing official communication saying so.
Nigerian banks are known for belligerent, bullying attitudes toward customers, but cutting off USSD banking access to 64 million Nigerians after a secret meeting without informing anyone is an action that should elicit a huge fine from the CBN at the very least.
A single industry with this much importance in the lives of dozens of millions of Nigerians should not be allowed to keep on acting in a reckless, cartoonishly greedy and unilateral manner like this.
