4. We all know China today produces low-cost goods and captures markets across the world and earns billions. It was just opposite centuries ago. In 1330 a Chinese author named Wang tu Yuan wrote Kalinga used to produced such low cost goods that 9 out of 10 Chinese 4/n
Sailors didn't wish to return back to their own country. Kalingans were rich by selling those products elsewhere. 5. Kalingans are said to be the first seafarers of East coast who established colonies in south east asia. There are traditions in Java, Burma etc which says so. 5/n
They also reached Srilanka, Maldives etc and started ruling there as well. 6. During peak of Gajapati Kapilendra Deva's reign(around 1464) the Odia empire was arguably the largest Hindu empire of India(ganga to Ramsethu) post starting of Islamic rule in India till Marathas 6/n
Odisha's temples follow a unique form of architecture which is different from both north and south. That is called Kalinga architecture style. Some scholars do say that it is part of Nagara architecture style. But, most don't agree due to its unique appearance. 7/n

Gajapati Bhanudeva II, a forgotten hero who defeated Sultan Ghiyasuddin Tuglak
Many people are aware of Lakhnauti campaign of Gajapati Narasimha Deva I and the feigned retreat strategy he used. Therefore, he is considered as a great monarch. However, we don't have many literary work(typical to Hindus of that time) who has written down these details+
What we have is vague epithets used for king in some drama or other places. The Turkic sources only come into rescue and talk in detail regarding the campaign. It is very rare for them that they accepted defeat by a Hindu king(but ultimately gives a self boasting tone though)but+

The indomitable Hindu spirit in the land of Jagannath.
Read the story of tyranny of Aurangzeb and how Rathyatra and Jagannath worship was restarted post his death. 0/n
Taj Mahal was built with around 3.2 crore rupees. In Mughal period the annual pilgrimage tax from Puri Jagannath temple was around 9 lakh. This is coroborated in several sources including some Mughal sources as well. To put this into perspective we can say in 35 years 1/n
The tax collected from Puri Jagannath temple could have completely recovered the money spent in "The greatest wonder " of the world. So, you can assume this 9 lakh was a huge amount in those days. Ideally it is said that wealth is the biggest motivation behind any ruler's 2/n
Wow!!!
As per this report Odisha has overtaken some of its peers in terms of per capita net state dometic product.
Reduced poverty from 57%in 2004-05 to 29% in 2019-20.
Commendable👏👏
From being 3Rd from bottom in terms net state domestic product (just above UP &Bihar) currently it is at ~11 rank from bottom. In the entire period it has never grown slower than 5.5%. in 2000-10 decade it grew at 7.2% and from 2015-2020 it grew 8.8% rate. Really a good job
I assume if Odisha can continue this kind of growth till 2035 it will have GSDP of around 200-250$ billion range which will be same as what states like WB & Karnataka has today with much lower population.
Today is the coronation day of one of the greatest hindu rulers of India, Gajapati #Kapilendradeva. A ruler who extended his kingdom to one of the largest Hindu empires.
588 years back he was placed in the throne of Odisha kingdom. 🙏🙏🙏
These are the main forts which were known to be under him at the peak of his rule(there could be many more, but we have this much info)
C:Hamvira Mohapatra
At the peak of his power this is the extent of his empire. He became the most powerful hindu ruler of his time in 15th century India #Kapilendradeva
I don't understand why so much hate for what he said. He just suggested few things which certainly carry some weight. He is not saying to stop manufacturing. He is saying not to follow China's path. The reason he gave are 1. There is a backlash in west regarding Chinese products+
As they believe they are importing too much from outside. So, obviously they will be hesitant to any other country including India. This is a fair point 2. He is saying, the autocratic govts can implement policies like easy land acquisition for infra or industry which China +
Has done but India has failed. Again this is correct. Infact he says China kept labour cost low forcefully. Can India do that, the answer is no.
These, two points are valid.
However, i don't agree when he says india can use service export instead. The first point he himself +
#LongThread Post Suryavansh Gajapati Odisha till 1568
In this thread we will discuss about some interesting information on Odisha post Prataprudra Deva's death around 1540 till final fall of the kingdom in 1568. This is comparatively small period but full of interesting tales 1/n
We will refer available primary sources like inscriptions, literary sources, western traveller's writings, Mughal sources along with local folklores. We will also discuss about opinions of some of the famous historians. We will try to clarify some of the myths. 2/n
After the death of Gajapati Prataprudra Deva, his two sons were killed by Gobinda Bidyadhara. After that he himself became the king and started the first Bhoi Gajapati dynasty of Odisha. He didn't rule for a long period however, we have inscriptions where he is said to have 3/n
