The Stranger by Albert Camus is a classic of French literature. It is a short novella following Meursault, a young Frenchman in colonized Algiers. Meursault is very detached from everything around him, including his own life, and is very much a "black or white" literal person. 📖
The interesting thing about the story of Meursault, and the shocking events he finds himself involved in, is the reaction it induces in readers. Most would react completely differently to Meursault's apathetic choices. It is a fascinating and immersive read. 📖
The first line of The Stranger is perhaps one of the most famous openings in French literature: "Aujourd'hui maman est morte. Ou peut-être hier, je ne sais pas."
