DSWD Spokesperson Dir.
Dr. Edsel Salvana of the Department of Health Technical Advisory Group on the surge of COVID-19 cases: Nakatutok tayo sa variant of concern, pero 'yung virus na mas laganap sa buong mundo—D614G na virus, 3 to 9 times more contagious than the original viruses that we have in March
Dr. Salvana: Sa Europe maraming naglalagay ng bagong lockdown—France, Italy, Germany, and 'yung cases nila ay 40,000 a day. Ang US, 60,000 a day.
RELATED: President Rodrigo Duterte defended anew the national government's COVID-19 pandemic response, saying other countries are in lockdown too because of surge in infections bit.ly/3rQ1EFo
Dr. Salvana: 'Yung mga at risk populations natin ay responsible for 90% of the total deaths, kung mabakunahan sila and the deaths from the virus will go down by more than 90%
Dr. Salvana on a possible nationwide ECQ: Marami pa rin ang mga areas na nakaka-control ang cases nila, pero patuloy pa rin na kailangang mag-ingat. It takes about two weeks of any kind of effect. May delay talaga, infections na nakikita natin ngayon ay about two weeks ago
Hopefully magta-taper off na 'yung infections.
Dr. Salvana: Kahit maraming cases pa 'yan, as long as we can continue to take care of them, the risk of dying is mababa.
Dr. Salvana on using political pressure to push for the use of Ivermectin vs COVID: Maraming mga gamot na unproven na ginagamit pero dumaan lahat sa pagsusuri ng FDA.
Dr. Salvana on ivermectin use against COVID-19: Kung kailangang gamitin for compassionate use, pero ang problema since 2018 walang rehistradong oral na ivermectin.
RELATED: Merck, the company behind the drug ivermectin says there is no basis in using it as a treatment for COVID-19
OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David: May positive [effect] ang ECQ, even nung GCQ bubble. Pero nung time ng GCQ bubble nag-improve by 0.1 ang reproduction number. With the ECQ, nag-improve siya from 1.9 to 1.6. Ang ibig sabihin 'yung trend is slowing down
OCTA Research Dr. David: 'Yung growth rate nag-decrease from 60% increase to 20% increase. Hopefully with the additional one week ECQ, we can reduce further ang reproduction number to 1 or close to 1
OCTA Research fellow Dr. Butch Ong: The real effect of the ECQ will be felt this week or next week. The trends are going down, pero it's early to say if it's going down enough
OCTA's Dr. David: The past weeks, the increase was 50% to 60%, the past week was down to 20%. 'Yun ang start ng improvement. First we will see a decrease sa upward trend. Wala pa tayo sa downward trend
OCTA's Dr. Ong: Hospitals are full sa NCR, above 70% ang ICU. We expect to see an improvement, maybe in a week or two pa
OCTA's Dr. David: We're still expecting around the same, which means we will still be having 11,000 cases a day for the next week or so
With regards to moderate to severe, our doctors are really working para ma-turnover, mabilis ang pag-recover
OCTA's Dr. Ong: There are things done now to improve the capacities, especially sa level ng quarantine facilities
OCTA's Dr. David: 'Yung 1 million total cases, that will be breached before the end of April based on projections that we're seeing
OCTA's Dr. David: Since maraming healthcare workers ang nagkakasakit, we hope the national government can provide quarantine facilities for healthcare workers
OCTA's Dr. David: As long as 'yung increase ng cases ay controlled, baka kayanin. We've seen that some hospitals have scaled up their capacities.
OCTA's Dr. David: We hope they could add more beds, transfer some healthcare workers from provinces to NCR because we really have a critical situation sa hospitals natin

BREAKING: The country’s COVID-19 tally hits 803,398 with 8,355 more infected, the DOH reports. Of the total, 143,726 are active cases.

Recoveries grow to 646,237 with another 145 confirmed, while 10 new fatalities raise the death toll to 13,435.
The DOH says three testing laboratories failed to submit their reports on time and were not yet included in the latest count.
The DOH earlier warned that the country may see an 'artificial' decline in new COVID-19 cases in the next few days because dozens of testing laboratories halted operations during the Holy Week. bit.ly/31JYCIf
