We have to cover the vulnerable first.. Do we have even vaccines to cover everybody? Absolutely not. Nobody in the world has it. No country has it. We don't have it. Because we are talking about 1.3 billion people multiplied by two: Adar Poonawalla today
We have a capacity of 60 to 70 million doses which we hope to ramp up in next two to three months partly with govt proposal and through borrowing money from banks to build an additional plant and facility. Now that may take at least three months to churn out product: Poonawala

So opening up for age group (below) 45 is very tough decision to make. Right now we have to go with what we have in hand, that is vaccine supply .and vulnerable people that you have to protect: Poonawala when asked about demands for opening up vaccination for people of all age
We had fire. In March we wanted extra capacity to come about, that has been pushed back because of fire by two, two and half months which is why In June you will get additional 40 to 50 million doses per month coming out. It's 85-day cycle from the time you start manufacturing.
So if we start today, it will take three months from today to deliver those doses in filled, packed, tested form which can actually go out to different states. We never imagined that we will need so many doses in India. Because we didn't see this kind of surge happening:Poonawala
