Hey all! I made a Google Sheet of all the 外交部 Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Twitter accounts I could locate (so you don’t have to!). You can find it here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…. Also a couple thoughts (thread 1/7)
.@Twitter does not consistently label PRC gov accounts. Of the 158 total accounts I found, by my (hasty) count only 19 were labeled. (Curiously, 88 were verified.) (2/7)
It is not always intuitive which embassies/ambassadors have active Twitter accounts. E.g. @AmbLiuQuan, ambassador to Suriname (pop: ~500k), 12k followers & Twitter verified. Amb to France: no twitter account I could locate (3/7)
This is how Twitter defines govt accounts. Feels like ambassadors/embassies meet the criteria? (4/7) help.twitter.com/en/rules-and-p…
I didn’t make a public Twitter list bc ppl can opt out of them, also I don’t want that kind of attention. But if you wanna pull names from the google sheet, you can use the Twitter API to add to your own list (see here developer.twitter.com/en/docs/twitte…) (5/7)
I adapted this list from Wikipedia’s list of Chinese foreign ministry postings, see here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambassado… (6/7)
Please note: This is NOT authoritative, I made this myself, it may contain errors. Feel free to DM me with them. Also if y’all know of a better source for this, link me. Cheers — I hope it’s useful! (7/7)
