🧵Today’s news story provides excruciating details of Andrew Cuomo’s repeated predation of an anonymous worker, still employed by NYS. It is an absolutely devastating, quite possibly criminal, & deeply upsetting account.
We stand wholly behind the woman who reported it. She describes not only a physical assault & disgusting verbal harassment, but the Governor & his staff’s knowing manipulation of her time and availability to him. That’s textbook grooming...
...and we’ve seen it before including in so many of our own experiences. In any other workplace, Cuomo would be removed from his position to protect staff and determine employer accountability, pending an investigation.
Yet, the @NYSA_Majority–the only body w/ the authority to immediately remove this repeat offender from office–continues to drag its feet on impeachment proceedings, punting to a kitchen sink investigation of Cuomo’s various corruptions that no survivor should have to dignify.
We are very clear-eyed on what is happening here: the Assembly is making a conscious decision that the safety of state workers means absolutely nothing, and that the anti-harassment laws it so proudly passed in 2019 don’t apply to the most powerful person in New York State.
Confronted with nearly a dozen public reports of workplace misconduct, every lawmaker must immediately move for impeachment. Those who don’t, fail the most basic test of democracy: that there is one set of rules that apply equally to all.
We’re waiting.
