Donghae is not the most organized person in the world. He often forgets where he left his keys, his glasses, even his ID. That used to make Hyukjae so mad, he couldn't understand how he could be so laid back.
But after years of knowing him, he now knows that he's really not that distracted.
He just "likes to be taken care of even if he knows how to take care of himself". That's what Donghae said to him.
But Hyukjae likes that he's messy for one simple, goofy reason: he believes the best couples are those that complement each other.
Donghae complemented him.
Hyukjae appreciates cleanliness and organization, Hae doesn't really care that much.
Hyukjae has a hard time admitting his emotions, Donghae is like an open book.
When they were teenagers, Hyukjae used to be more correct and Donghae was somewhat rebellious; now Hyuk is the outgoing one and Hae is more shy, at least with people they didn't know.
Despite all this, they've never had any major fights.
It occurs to Hyukjae that they have as many different traits as the ones they have in common.
Anyway. Just because Hyuk likes the "opposites attract" hypothesis it doesn't mean he appreciates Donghae messing with his stuff.
"Donghae," he said from the doorframe and then walked into the room, hoping Donghae would follow him (and he did). "Come in." He let him in first and pointed to his, until yesterday, spotless dressing table. "What's this?"
"Uhm..." his lips formed a thin line and he looked at Hyukjae with those big eyes. "I'm sorry. I forgot."
Hyukjae let out a sigh. It was frustrating to come home tired and find his dresser full of creams and combs scattered around - that's what drawers are for!
"I've told you a million times not to use my stuff without my permission..... Agh. Clean it up, please. I want to sleep."
"It's already midnight, can't I do it tomorrow?"
"No!"
"You're yelling."
Hyukjae clicked his tongue.
"Sorry. But I've told you this bothers me."
Donghae looked at him with those sad eyes and a pout. He nodded and then sat on the bed to put everything back in place.
Hyukjae watched him while standing by his side.
When he finished, they looked at each other for several seconds with narrowed eyes and frowning.
Suddenly, Donghae flashed him a smile. Hyukjae couldn't help but do the same.
"Sorry again," said Donghae.
"It's okay."

In their teenage years, Donghae got a hairstyle he hated for their upcoming debut. Hyukjae tries to comfort him.]
Hyukjae frowned as he heard a stifled cry when he arrived at the salon for his haircut appointment.
He looked around and saw a guy on the waiting room couch. He was lying face down, his face buried in a cushion, and he had a bunch of rollers in his hair. After a few seconds, Hyukjae recognized him and got closer to him.
"Donghae?"
"Go away."
"Did something happen?"
"I don't want you to see me."
"Why?"
"Just go away. Go!" Hyukjae approached his friend. He crouched down on the side of the sofa.
"I can't leave, I have an appointment," he said softly.
Donghae stayed silent. A few seconds later, he sobbed.
Hyukjae wanted to roll his eyes. While he was taking a call at the bar they decided to go to, Donghae made a new friend: the man sitting next to him.
Donghae was sometimes a bit naive, not realizing that many people were interested in him in a romantic way when Donghae just wanted to talk. Hyukjae couldn't tell the number of times someone tried to get his number when they were out on a date.
At that moment, the guy at the bar was talking to him. And he talked and talked. And he was a little too close for Hyukjae’s liking. Donghae was laughing.
Hyukjae had already hung up a few seconds ago, but Donghae turned his back to talk to the man.

“Daddy!”
Donghae smiled as he saw Haru running towards him. It was five o'clock in the afternoon, Haru had finished her day at the kindergarten and Donghae went to pick her up.
They both could rest at home until Hyukjae arrived a couple of hours later.
The little girl raised her arms and Donghae bent down to give her a hug.
“Up!” Donghae laughed and carried her in his arms, making her laugh too.
“Hey baby, did you eat all your food?”
“Hm!” Donghae kissed her cheek repeatedly. He carried her to the car and settled her in the seat.
“Don't move, love.” Haru stirred in her car seat, making it difficult to secure the belt. Eventually, Donghae managed to do it and went to the driver's seat.
Donghae smiled mischievously at Hyukjae when he saw that the movie theater was practically empty. There were only about three people in the center row.
He took his boyfriend's hand again and led them to the last row.
Once they both sat down, Hyukjae looked at him.
“What?” Said Donghae.
“Are you planning something?”
“Why?”
“You chose the farthest seats.” Hyukjae raised his eyebrows.
He sighed and walked towards the closet, turning his back to Hyukjae.
Hyuk followed him with his eyes and stood up. He walked up to Donghae and hugged him from behind, running his hands across his torso and hugging his shoulder with one hand.
He rested his forehead on the younger one's head.
Donghae snuggled against his boyfriend's chest and smiled sadly. Hyukjae never hugged him like that, from behind, with firm, constant caresses.
Hyukjae kissed his shoulder.
"Agh," he moaned because of how good it felt and leaned against his boyfriend. "Can't you hug me like this all the time?"
They both laughed. Hyukjae caressed his tummy gently, making him squirm a little. I just want you to forget about everything for a little while, he thought.
