In the wake of George Floyd's death, companies pledged new diversity, equity, and inclusion goals. Much of the work required falls to DEI executives.

Insider spoke with 8 DEI execs, many of whom are at risk of burning out long before equity is reached.👇

Doris Quintanilla’s inbox has been flooded with requests from corporate and nonprofit leaders. They want change, and they want it fast. But at the same time, she felt many were not respecting her.
businessinsider.com/dei-leaders-ri…
Business leaders have yelled at Quintanilla, sent her demeaning emails, and even questioned the existence of racism in corporate spaces, despite her expertise and her lived experience as a disabled Latina.
businessinsider.com/dei-leaders-ri…
Some executives said they would implement Quintanilla's recommendations, which are based on employee feedback, but refused once they saw the amount of change she recommended.
On top of helping to oversee a rollout of new initiatives within Mastercard to increase diversity and inclusion, Randall Tucker had to struggle with his grief and anxiety in the aftermath of Floyd's death.
businessinsider.com/mastercard-mak…
There’s much work to be done. Mastercard's most recent diversity data from 2019 showed that 69% of its executives were white.
businessinsider.com/dei-leaders-ri…
It’s clear that there’s an emerging trend: Company leaders are genuinely interested in championing diversity, but they don't understand that all areas of their business may need overhaul. And conversations around DEI can be hard to navigate, with some leaders getting defensive.

Amazon employees in Bessemer, Alabama, voted overwhelmingly against unionizing this week.

Experts said Amazon's anti-union push proved companies have too much power over workers.
businessinsider.com/amazon-union-v…
Amazon said it was glad its employees’ "collective voices were finally heard.” But Rebecca Givan, a Rutgers associate labor and employment professor, said the result actually “reflects the imbalance in current US labor law.”

In countries where union laws favor employees, some Amazon workers have successfully negotiated pay raises through their union. In Bessemer, workers had a much tougher road to travel.

An #Easter basket is incomplete without Peeps. How are these marshmallow blobs made?

We visited Just Born's Pennsylvania factory to see how @PEEPSBrand's iconic treats come to life. 👇
Peeps are a household name.

People use them nationwide to make dioramas, participate in the "100 Peeps challenge," and even pop them in the microwave to see if they'll explode.
Easter accounts for 70% of Peeps' annual sales.

But Peeps fell into the Just Born company's lap sort of by accident.

Tokyo's 2020 Olympics are already the most expensive summer games ever. And that's before the games have even taken place.

But problems run deeper than the delay. We break it down. 👇
When Tokyo won the bid for the Olympics in 2013, the cost estimate was $7.3 billion. Today, expert estimates run to $26 billion.
The problem starts with the venues — 43 of them to be exact. The cost of Olympic stadiums and arenas typically go over budget.

And once the games are over, these venues often become abandoned.
