#Luxor#GoldenCity. Here what Robichon and Varille said about the #Village of #Amenhotep III: To the north-west of the temple of Thutmes II, brick walls with the cartouche of Amenophis III delimit rectangular spaces that must have served as workshops and storerooms.
Inside these enclosures we found powdered granite and sandstone, painted jars, and stamped jar stoppers. Not far from there, the craftsmen lived in a district of hovels which seems surrounded by undulating walls.
To the north of the temple of Thutmose II, outside the limits of the excavation, a brick wall with a cartouche of Amenophis III is flush with the surface of the ground. Its orientation shows that it relates to previous workshops.
In addition, excavations at the University of Chicago have uncovered, under the temples of Ay and Horemheb, constructions of Amenophis III similar to those we have discovered and also containing granite powder.
The junction of the plans of our excavation with those of the American excavation shows that the orientation of all these workshops is the same. Their walls are parallel or perpendicular to the large enclosure of the Temple of the Colossi...
..., which we have restored according to information very kindly communicated by Dr. Borchardt. These workshops of Amenophis III, located behind his mortuary temple, were therefore arranged according to an overall plan that will be revealed by the complete clearance of the site.
Behind the royal buildings, the workers' dwellings stretched out at the foot of the mountain; like the modern Egyptian houses, they were hastily built and laid out without a precise plan.
So, it seems probable that the #Luxor#GoldenCity excavations concern parts of this workmen village. Not all of this settlement/industrial quarter was uncovered. Even if these new excavations are revisiting old ones, they will bring a wealth of new information.
