Isn’t it time for us to start talking about the intersection of racism and (a grotesque deformation of) masculinity? 1/
It seems so clear from the behavior of that Virginia thug parading as a cop that he enjoyed being a tough guy, enjoyed domination, enjoying showing it off for his fellow officers (as happens, too, when Frat boys group rape.) Showing you’re a Man. 2/
Maybe that‘s part of why Chauvin kept his knee on George Floyd’s neck even after he was unresponsive. He was showing off his absolute dominance in a racist system that permits that poisonous macho to display itself without restraint when the victim is Black. 3/
These cops are racists, and they are also bullies. The intersection of the two is deadly.

Both Karen Hallion and Glen Hanson have objected to my use of their work in my piece, and Karen has had the illustration of her piece removed. I can understand why they may have felt personally attacked, although that was not my intention. I inserted the following in the piece ➡️
"I’d like to make it clear at this point that my use of these illustrations was not to indict any individual artist, but to display evidence of what began to seem a trend. I’m a cultural critic, and it’s my job to notice such developments....(2)➡️
"I’m not accusing Hallion or Glen Hanson, whose vibrant caricatures are much in demand among feminists, of Hillary-hate. I don’t have knowledge of either’s personal politics...(3)➡️

We don’t have a “divided” country that needs to “heal.”

The country is neither a wounded animal or a mega version of the Hatfields and McCoys. (1)
What we are seeing is the result of the refusal of those who believe they are the rightful owners of the country to accept the fact that they are NOT. They cannot tolerate the fact that their reign is crumbling—demographically, politically, & culturally. (2)
They will employ and have employed any means to hold onto power—from the “Arkansas Project” to the elevation and protection of a deranged salesman—no matter the cost. (3)

Thread on “alternative reality”:

I wish the pundits and media people would stop using the term “alternative reality.” (1)
“Alternative“ suggests multiple interpretations—such as exist for books, movies, and other texts.

“Reality” suggests some kind of legitimacy, even if only partial. (2)
But a view that rejects fact and evidence Is not simply one interpretation among others, and has no region of legitimacy, not even partial. (3)
