Tasers shouldn’t be used as compliance tools. They’re not non-lethal, they’re less lethal. People still die from their application and that’s without considering cases where cops “grab the wrong gun”, yet cops continue to blast away with them with impunity.
As if 2012 Amnesty International had tracked 500 deaths after taser applications since 2001. In another report they found 90% of the time when a taser was deployed the person shocked was unarmed. amnestyusa.org/press-releases…
Our police are militarized and the thin blue line mentality that they’re the last line of defense between civilization and barbarism is an inextricable part of cop culture. They operate like an invading force, terrified of many of the people they’re supposed to be serving.
If we keep hiring people who, and training people to, hate and fear people of color, these outcomes aren’t going to change. How many of these cops are convinced black men are unusually strong and dangerous?
I’m not an abolish the police guy, but I don’t know how much clearer it needs to be that we have to dramatically rethink how we enforce the law. This is a problem that’s much bigger than slapping a little extra training on top of what we already have.

A nearly 80 year old Donald Tump in the presidential debates in 2024, slumped over on his stool looking like an overstuffed haggis marinated in turmeric, rambling about Hillary Clinton killing Vince Foster.
“You know that’s a very interesting question, Tim.”
“My name is Chris, Mr. President. And I didn’t ask you a question.”
“Thank you, Tim. I appreciate that.” *stares into the distance horrified* “I still hear his voice, Tim. Can you hear it?”
“Mr. President, if we can move on. Polling shows that climate change is a key concern for the public, how do you propose to address it.”
“Great question, Tom.”
“Chris.”
“Exactly. Change concerns me too, ok. How does a woman change over night, Dom?”
I may have mentioned this before, but my grandmother was incredibly racist against, of all things, Finnish people. She warned us early and often to avoid Finns because they're clannish and carry knives.
Don't get me wrong, she was regular 'ol racist as well, but for whatever reason she had a special hatred in her heart for Finns. This is doubly funny to me because her husband's family came from an area of Norway known as Finnskogen, Forest of the Finns.
When my mom and dad first started dating she expressed concerns about their potential kids struggling in society as products of a mixed marriage.
Everyone who spoke out against these clowns got so much pushback. They produced low-rent, ineffective resistance porn. Your dollars would have been better spent going to places like Fair Fight Action or candidates in competitive districts.
The guy that introduced me to her was a character. The first time I met him he came to our offices and called to ask if we had an elevator. This was an odd question considering our office started with 2 so it was clearly on the second floor, but I answered yes.
I sat there wondering what the bell he was bringing. Some kind of display? Food? The company he repped was a diet supplement company, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Then he arrived and I saw why he asked about the elevator.
I don’t doubt a lot of people support bans like this without thinking about it too deeply. They just think yeah no one should control women’s bodies and check the box without considering they’re also voting to control women’s bodies.
If a woman, of her own free will, wants to wear a veil as a mark of her religious devotion then that should be her choice. I think a lot of these bans are rooted in people being uncomfortable with a perceived Islamization of “Christian” or secular countries.
In reality Muslims make up a tiny minority of the Swiss, and I think it’s likely that xenophobia is responsible for pushing Swiss Muslim youth towards more orthodox, for lack of a better word, versions of Islam.
If Cuomo resigns he’ll be replaced by Kathy Hochul. NY hasn’t had a GOP governor since 2006 and there’s nothing to indicate they’d win now. And exactly how did their master plan snare in a bunch of Dem staffers? Get a grip, you loons.
Cuomo won almost 60% of the vote in 2018. Do you remember the names of any of the GOP guys who have run and lost since 2006? John Faso (27.1%), Carl Paladino (33.5%), Rob Astorino (40.3%), Mark Molinaro (36.2%).
