7 truths no one tells you about managing your focus

A thread
Last week, I had an interview with a startup for a part-time role as Content Strategist.

When I told them the list of work I do, their question :
“How do you get time to even breathe?

"I don’t work for more than two hours a day."

How I manage my focus
A thread
1. Chunking
Every weekend, I write the tasks I've to do next week + the hours it'd take. Include client deliverables.
I also plan the time of reading.

For new client calls and cold outreach, the hours other than “two work hours” are used.
Setting boundaries for your time is how your mind respects them.
2. Setting restrictions on social media
I check WhatsApp only 4 times a day – 9 am, 12 noon, 3 pm and 7:45 pm.
Totally logged off from phone from 8 pm to 8 am.
IG is installed only at the time of posting, and then deleted.

What’s left is LOADS of time and tonnes of focus.
We own our devices. Not the other way round.
3. Parkinson’s Law: Work contracts or expands in proportion to time.
Thus, in order to keep my free time “free”, I keep books, notebook, highlighters and stick-on’s next to my laptop on work desk.

They serve as “chocolate” a kid waits for after finishing their studies.
Time gives exponential compound interest when invested in learning.
4. Morning routine:
1.5 hours morning meditation
1 hour of workout (with audiobook on)
30 minutes of reading

All by 7. No phone. Total power.

In fact, last month we went on a team retreat in Goa and I made sure to take full advantage of the gym of the Taj. Image

5. Evening routine
Going for a nature walk in the evening.
Sometimes thinking, sometimes listening to an audiobook.

Also, I sleep for 30-45 minutes after lunch.
Heavenly it is!
The problems we have
Have their solutions in the nature we don’t give ourselves access to.
6. Night routine

Meditation and reading for 30-35 minutes.
Saying sorry (in my mind) if I hurt someone, forgiving those who did to me, and cleaning up everything in the head.
For the car to drive smoothly tomorrow, we need to park it right tonight!
7. NOT To-Do List

7a
No TV. I do not know how an LED operates. Haven’t watched TV since college days.

7b No gossips. Talking about people is the quickest way to lose your energy. If someone talks, I get up and leave.
7c
No ordering out

I live by myself in Noida. Cooking all three meals, and also set curd at home.
If someone is upset and cooking food, what kind of vibes will your food radiate, and then we eat those vibes!

One of the reasons why our ancestors had less mental health issues.
The most magical word is "No" :)
Been following this schedule for almost 10 years.
Even when I had a job before freelancing, I used to manage a nap, go for evening walks and cook at home.

Result? Used to leave office at 6:30 instead of 8:30, and also got a promotion in 2 years instead of the usual 3 years!
In case you’re wondering, I couldn’t make it to the job last week, because they needed someone to work for 8-9 hours.

For me, I couldn’t be happier :)))

There are books that teach you about money.

Then there are books that teach you about money like no one else does.

@morganhousel's Psychology of Money falls in the latter.

18 lessons from the book

A thread
1. Doing well with money is less about how smart you are and more about how you behave.

And behaviour is hard to teach.
2. Focus less on specific individual case studies and more on broad patterns.

If only we knew how much negativity we spread in the world because of watching the news...
If only we knew how much others were scared because of our anger...
If only we understood that in very few places we need to stop trying...
