Minister LaGrange says closing the schools was not a move directed by the Chief Medical Officer of Health (Dr. Hinshaw). This was the request of the school boards.
"We are committed to continuing in-person learning as much as possible across the province," Minister LaGrange says.
LaGrange says she has not received any requests from other school boards to take students online.
LaGrange says the CBE and CCSD asked for two weeks. If they want longer, she says "we will take that into consideration."
I asked if this decision was made in a rush. Minister LaGrange says "no." She said the decision was made carefully.
Minister LaGrange says she has been advocating for teachers and all education staff to be vaccinated.
Minister LaGrange says she hasn't received a request from any Edmonton school boards to go online. She says if they do submit a request, she will work with them.
