It's not just due to testing; growth outpaces testing increases. But positivity rate of 5.8 tells us we're doing a good job of testing a lot of Chicagoans.
Arwady: We're definitely back on the increase, though not as bad as in the fall.
"Younger adults is very much who we continue to see the majority of these cases being diagnosed in."
Arwady: We are seeing increases in children (0-17 age group).
Arwady: Hospitalizations going up, but not concerned at this point about overwhelming health care.
Arwady: Deaths still averaging 3-4 per day, well below fall/spring peaks.
Arwady: Feds are switching the United Center doses to Pfizer (since UC was going to switch to J&J next week). Everyone can keep their appointments. They don't need to do anything. They'll just get Pfizer instead of J&J.
Arwady: Reminder: 16- and 17-year-olds can only get the Pfizer vaccine when eligibility opens to them Monday.
There's not safety concerns with Moderna with younger folks; it just hasn't been approved for younger people yet because it didn't test that young.
Arwady: "I think by late April into May, I think it will increasingly become easier for people to be able to receive a COVID vaccine. I've been excited to know that that's coming ... ."
Arwady: We will pass half of Chicago adults having gotten at least a first dose within a week here.
We're making good progress, but that 65+ group remains a concern. We're under-vaccinated there compared to others.
Arwady: "As of right now, I certainly am not planning for a booster shot myself."
It's unlikely COVID will be under control by January, which means there is potential for variants (which could mean we need more shots). Best thing you can do is get vaccinated ASAP.
Arwady telling a story about how a provider accidentally found themselves with ~200 extra doses on a Saturday night. It was set to expire Sunday morning.
CDPH didn't want it to go to waste, so they called a bunch of groups — and then connected it to Northwestern ...,
which created a team of 13 people and set up a vaccine event at the university midnight-2 a.m. Sunday.

Averaging 691 new cases of COVID per day. High-risk territory.
Arwady: None of the 6 reports of blood clots potentially linked to J&J vaccine are in Chicago or Illinois.
"We've been looking in our records and not seen anything of concern related to blood clots or related to platelets locally here." ...
Chicago wants to pause so clinicians know to look for this as a potentially rare side effect.
Arwady: They are seeing rare instances of low platelets. Also seeing rare instances of blood clots.
