COVID-19 UPDATE

There are no new cases in the community to report today.

There are four new positive cases of COVID-19 and 1 historical case to report in managed isolation since our last media statement on Friday. The seven-day rolling average of new cases detected at the border is three.

The total number of active cases in New Zealand today is 102.

Our total number of confirmed cases is 2,239. Three previously reported cases have now recovered.

Since 1 January 2021, there have been 48 historical cases, out of a total of 423 cases.

Globally, there have been 139,501,934 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 2,992,193 deaths, reported to WHO.

TESTING INFORMATION

The total number of tests processed by laboratories to date is 1,972,640.

On Friday, 4,688 tests were processed. On Saturday, 3,965 tests were processed. The seven-day rolling average up to yesterday is 4,356 tests processed.

For up-to-date information on testing locations in Auckland, visit Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS). For all testing locations nationwide visit the Healthpoint website.

NEW BORDER CASE DETAILS

- Two cases arrived on 10 April, and tested positive on Day 5. These cases travelled as part of a family bubble along with two previously reported cases. They have been transferred to a quarantine facility in Auckland.

- One case arrived on 5 April and tested positive on Day 12. This case was part of a travel bubble with two previously reported cases and was transferred on 13 April from their initial managed isolation facility in Auckland to a quarantine facility.

- One case arrived on 15 April and tested positive on Day 0. They have been transferred to a quarantine facility in Auckland.

The historical case arrived on 14 April and was tested on arrival. They are not infectious.

In addition, one previously reported case has now been deemed historical and is now recovered.

NZ COVID TRACER

NZ COVID Tracer now has 2,785,282 registered users.

Poster scans have reached 250,258,193 and users have created 9,355,767 manual diary entries. There have been 785,253 scans in the last 24 hours to midday yesterday.

It’s incredibly important that people keep a record of where they’ve been. It can help support contact tracers in tracing potential close and casual contacts of people who have tested positive for COVID-19.

As quarantine free travel begins overnight tonight, it’s a timely reminder that people who visit New Zealand as part of quarantine free travel will be able to download the NZ COVID Tracer app - there are no restrictions.

People may need to search their App Store or Google Play for ‘NZ COVID’ not just COVID as the search will prioritise the app from their country, therefore adding ‘NZ’ will be important to discovering the app.

Alternatively people will be able to visit the ministry website and the link on the tracer app page will take them direct to the right app on app stores.

We recommend people continue to scan NZ COVID Tracer app. The more we all scan, the safer we’ll all be. The data is stored on your phone until you choose to share it.

The Ministry’s next update is planned for 1pm tomorrow (Monday 19 April).

APRIL AIRPORT CASE UPDATE

Following interviews with the person who has today returned a positive test for COVID-19, the Ministry of Health believes there is a clear link to the border as the source of the infection.

The person who has tested positive for COVID-19 works as a cleaner at Auckland International Airport, cleaning planes that have flown internationally from countries where COVID-19 is widespread.

The person has been regularly tested every week for COVID-19 as part of routine surveillance testing. They were tested yesterday at their workplace as part of this, and that test came back as positive today. Their previous tests were all negative.

COVID-19 update

There are no new community cases of COVID-19 to report today.

There is one border worker who has returned a positive test result for COVID-19 – they work at Auckland Airport.

The usual protocol of isolating the case, interviewing them, and tracing their contacts and movements is underway. More information will be provided later today and this case will be included in tomorrow's totals.

There is one historical case of COVID-19 to report since yesterday – this case is a recent returnee who is considered recovered.

The seven-day rolling average of new cases detected at the border is two.

There are no new cases in the community to report today.

There are 2 new positive cases of COVID-19 to report in managed isolation since yesterday. The seven-day rolling average of new cases detected at the border is 2.

The total number of active cases in New Zealand today is 102. One previously reported case has now recovered and another previously reported case has been reclassified to ‘under investigation.’

Our total number of confirmed cases is 2,240.

Since 1 January 2021, there have been 48 historical cases, out of a total of 424 cases.

Globally, there have been 140,322,903 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 3,003,794 deaths, reported to WHO.

COVID-19 update

Today the Government has announced we are temporarily suspending entry into New Zealand for travellers from India. This will take effect from 4pm on 11 April and remain in place until 28 April.

While New Zealand continues to enjoy effective elimination of COVID with no community transmission, the same is not true of the rest of the world.

The World Health Organisation global reporting shows that in just the last month cases of the virus have been on the rise again internationally after falling steadily over January and February, with surges in cases particularly in Brazil and India.

COVID-19 UPDATE

There is one new border-related positive COVID-19 case, in a worker at the Grand Millennium managed isolation facility.

The worker returned a positive swab after being tested on Tuesday.

The person returned high CT values which can mean it is either early on in their infection, nearing the end, or the case is historical. An urgent repeat test is being carried out today to give health officials a better understanding of this person’s infection.

Whole Genome Sequencing will be carried out.

The case lives alone and travels to work with a colleague. The case’s colleague has been informed they are a close contact, is self-isolating at home and will be tested today.

COVID-19 Update

There are no new COVID-19 community cases to report today and 7 new positive COVID-19 border-related cases in managed isolation since our last update on Tuesday.

The seven-day rolling average of new cases detected at the border is 5.

The total number of active cases in New Zealand today is 81.

Our total number of confirmed cases is 2,175. Globally, there have been 131,487,572 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 2,857,702 deaths, reported to WHO.

Since 1 January 2021, there have been 43 historical cases, out of a total of 363 cases.

Of the new border cases,
- One new case arrived on 22 March, and tested positive around day 14. They are a contact of a case, and are in a quarantine facility in Auckland.
