Even with a blindsided attack, a follower of unsound doctrines only succeeds if he locates the weakness in *your* armor. He cannot pierce the truth with which you are shielded. He will offend your pride, your personality, your obedience. He will offend that which you hold sacred.
He will mock, shame, & disorient you. He will provoke you into making a mistake that better exposes a weakness & exploit it as a serpent strikes an exposed heel. Do not be drawn into the open low ground by such provocations. Ascend to a vantage point. Assess your surroundings.
Secure your armor—truth, righteousness, faith, peace, salvation, Spirit. The mantle of the Priesthood is upon you. Christ is at your side. Your opponent, as the wicked Lamanites of old, is bare. His danger isn’t his skill, but his fear—the anxiety of certain destruction.
As servants of Christ, that should break our hearts. Like a well-gilded Nephite, I should look upon him & think, “That man is my brother. We are born of the same Father. Now he would kill me—not because I mean him harm, but because before truth, he has no defense.”
Lies are a loincloth. They only provide cover for shame, & not adequately, nor for long. When you encounter someone easily offended & quick to insult, allow yourself godly pity for them. They offend bc they lack the defense that truth provides. Pray for them—and hold the line.
