This is a very important week for the future of policing in Brazil.
The Supreme Court has been hearing arguments all day about police violence & how to reduce it.
My working paper (showing that suspending police raids ➡️ fewer homicides) was referenced in testimony today:
A write-up of my work from 2 weeks ago explains how the suspension of brutal police raids:
1. Did not lead to an increase in crime, i.e. weaker enforcement did not "encourage" more people to commit crimes 2. Lead to a drop in civilian homicides
Maybe I'm just new to this, but it feels so humbling and inspiring to have my work used to help inform public policy. Hoping for a better, safer solution.
