14 Tips on Building Self Discipline

| Thread
Self-discipline gives the necessary direction to life
and helps an individual to enjoy the desired success.
Building Discipline is an acquired trait and learned behavior.
Practice regularly to make healthy choices in life:
1. Reduce the number of goals you’re aiming for

If you have too many things you’re planning to achieve,
you are chasing goals you care little about.
The more goals you pursue,
the lesser your chances of accomplishing any of them.
2. Start small

The more abrupt the change, the harder your mind, and body will find accepting it.

Allow yourself time to get used to the change.
Small changes serve two purposes:

1. it allows you enough time to digest what you’re going through.
2. it gives you a first-hand experience of reality.
3. Removing Temptation

Instead of keeping temptations around and trying to resist them,
why not remove the temptations in the first place?

This makes self-discipline effortless, as the decision is automatic.
4. Define your wants and identify your goals

If you have a particular desire in mind it can act as a motivational tool to build self-discipline.

Be clear in your wants so that you can effectively move towards the desired outcome.
5. Track progress

Find a way to track the progress you’re making.

A habit becomes easier to develop when you associate a real-life visible thing with it.
6. Visualization

Imagined memories can become real with the help of visualization techniques.

It helps to overcome the fear of failure
as the brain gives our body the necessary push to take a step forward.
Once you start visualizing that you have achieved greater discipline
and are now near your targets the mind
will feel the satisfaction of a job well done.
7. Start with small things

The first step toward success is getting started.

If you have a small goal in front of you it looks attainable
and you can easily motivate yourself to complete it successfully.
8. Be consistent in your efforts

If you are serious in your attempts to build self-discipline you will have to be consistent in your efforts.

Be committed because it takes a lot of hard work and determination to build self-discipline.
9. Focus is a Muscle You Can Build

Take a look at the thread of mine about how to increase your focus:

10. Sleep enough and eat well

If you’re not well-rested, your brain will struggle to make the right decisions.
Poor eating habits will lead to the same outcome.
Undereating and overeating will hamper your daily actions,
just like poor and excess sleep will.
11. It is ok to make mistakes

Failure and disappointments are part of life, accept that you are human and will mistakes.

The key is to stand up again with more willpower and step forward despite the blunder.
Accept them and forgive yourself if you want to build self-discipline.

Let go of negative emotions like frustration and anger
so that you can move ahead in life in a disciplined manner.
12. Praise yourself

Praise yourself if you are looking for ways to build self-discipline.

Encourage yourself so that you can become better and can handle the task easily from now onwards.
13. Set goals and make a plan

Set definite goals, contemplate your action plan, and let it in motion.
Stay focussed and remember it is an acquired habit and just like other skills will require willpower to make it work.

Remember once you have set goals it becomes a bit easier with time to follow them.
14. Don't Expect Perfection

Don't expect yourself to perform perfectly every time.
If you hold yourself to an unachievable standard of perfection,
you'll only succeed in making yourself feel inadequate.

When you fail, forgive yourself, get up and move forward.
Self-discipline is like a muscle. It doesn't explode overnight.

It grows over time with consistent work.
If you stay focused, you will grow.
- Book recommendation: “Live Intentionally”

Live Intentionally is a 90 Day Self-Improvement Project that will re-calibrate your entire existence

It will change your habits, daily routine, mindset, and make you strong and disciplined.
