was sitting at my desk yesterday thinking about how a society trying to adhere to or appealing to the “letter of the law” cant function (said in some classic chinese philosophy). there has to be an element of the flexible “spirit” operating behind the law and then realized:
in some ancient chinese text, the hua he ching i think (like the tao te ching 2) it says in an overly legalistic society “no one can move”. i think its either that or everything becomes a hyper semantic enforcing of what terms seem to mean + when they do or dont apply (like now)
example of this ive occasionally been using to parachute up to a more meta level irl when people try to back me into a political conversation about a specific topic, as its very timely and topical, is the difference between a “riot” and a “protest”, thats one place it falls apart
“a riot” is something the authorities have a duty to stop (theoretically), whereas a protest is something the authorities are forbidden from stopping (theoretically), but now two people look at the same thing and cant even tell if its a riot or a protest. so that just falls apart
so now ur locked into a situation wherein how things are interpreted and seen is the difference between “very illegal” or “constitutional right”. doesnt work. i guess its always been that way but feels extra nefarious in the information age (it necessitates information warfare)
of course thats obvious for essentially all of us but i like using that example w people because, most people think theyre “just” dealing with “reality” but that shows that there can be a subjective element determining things + that the subjectivity functions as a by proxy weapon

never gonna get tired of getting a really heartfelt dm or email from someone about how something i worked on had an effect on them or helped them through something and i check the @ and its like "AnimeWifeFeetSommelier"
thanks for the feedback JelqingForAntiRacism, the threads of fate have tethered us together for all of time now, i am pleased to call you a friend
wife calling me to leave the office but i just have to finish up an intro to church history recommendation list for MilkTruckJihadi69
there is an interesting sacred art vibe that emerges at this time. naturally it will be slightly controversial, i am not necessarily endorsing or de-endorsing. just posting
moreau's pieta, christ between two thieves, christ with angels
this would presumably then be another layer deeper into being polarizing. again i am just posting neutrally for vibe analysis purposes
odilon redon - calvary, christ on cross, crucifixion, sacred heart
in terms of zeitgeist studies and how terms function now this is a really good example of the phenomenon wherein something is given a name, the name is itself exaggerated or not literal, so then criticism of that thing, thusly named, can be dismissed, based on the name it got.
regardless of the informational content or who is correct there, thats just a great example. its like a natural self defense mechanism that “the spectacle” spontaneously generates. “oh, you think you were literally ‘locked down’? like someone locked you in your house? really?”.
within your own political interests you can probably notice this happening for more contentious issues. theyll say youre concerned about five alarm chili, and then when you try and talk about it theyll say, “really? you think the chili literally has five alarms? where? what?”.
fascinating that, like attaching -gate as a suffix onto a type of event, a large subset of people have been taught to and instinctually use “-truther” as a suffix for someone who distrusts a story about something. thats really the insult they use, “truther”, “one who truths”
you can say its sarcastic, obviously it is, but its of an entirely different nature when compared with insults like “crazy”, “paranoid”, “tin foil hat”, etc, it points to the seeking of truth as the pathology. first heard it casually as a malleable suffix irl like ten years ago
was talking to a girl + she said yeah, i went on a date with this guy but he turned out to be a (something random)truther. and i thought, oh, thats a term now? but its not, the suffix itself is the term, which they spontaneously and eagerly affix to anything. language programming
i have only “gone deep” into seafood in a north eastern and east coast context. this intrigues me. i was already presuming the next esoteric americana road trip would be to this place, to this zone
in my 1800s studies (currently ongoing) i read that after the war jefferson davis lived in a small house on the coast down there, i think it was in louisiana or mississippi. thought that would make a solid destination. hard for me to imagine a “coast” down there tbh. i must see.
what is the energy of the southern coast down there. can anyone tell us. i am also interested if we have any (using this term in its honorific sense) swamp people that would like to tell us what thats like. i have only done the swamp thing in the everglades.
