These statistics disprove the racial narrative. What the numbers actually show is that the police kill an extraordinarily large number of people every year; that the victims are drawn from all racial and ethnic backgrounds; and that the largest number of victims are white. 4/
Blacks comprise the second largest number of victims. In absolute numbers [908], they comprise slightly more than half the number of white victims [1733]. As a percentage of victims, the number of black people killed [21.8%] exceeds their percentage of the population [15.5%]. 5/
The racial narrative distorts and falsifies the socio-economic and political significance of police violence. The overwhelming number of victims are working people. Police violence, in the US and throughout the world, is a phenomenon of class society. 6/6
