8 out of 20 pages in Sandesh newspaper’s Rajkot edition contain obituaries today.

There are 152 obituaries with photos of the deceased.

There are 133 text-only obituaries in a single page.

These people have become just a statistic for govt. However, each of them deserved to live like you & me.

Since 40% of the newspaper is filled with obituaries, we can safely say most of them died due to COVID-19.

As a small tribute, I roughly translate 6 of the 285 obituaries:
Her name was Minaben Pingalshibhai Modh. She was 28 years of age.

She lived at Mangrol town in Junagadh, Gujarat.

She died on April 22.

In her remembrance, her family has organised a “telephonic get-together” because of the “current situation”.
His name was Jayantilal Samjibhai Kagathara, 54 years of age. His native place was Ghuntu village in Morbi, Gujarat.

He died on April 21.

The obituary has been signed by his daughter, nephew and four sisters.
His name was Hirenbhai Hasmukhbhai Ervadiya. He was 39 years of age.

His native place was Tikar village in Surendranagar, Gujarat.

He used to live in Dhrangadhra village of the same district.

He died on April 21.
Her name was Champaben Dahyabhai Bhuva. She was 55 years old.

Her native place was Bharat Nagar.

Champaben died on April 21.

Her family has also organised “telephonic get-together” because of the “current situation”.
His name was Vipulbhai Ajabiya. He was 41 years old.

He died on April 22. He lived in Junagadh, Gujarat.

His family has organised telephonic get-together between 4 pm to 6 pm today.
His name was Ravi Manibhai Malli. He was 32 years of age.

He died on April 22.

His family has organised a “telephonic get-together” on Saturday to remember him.

His obituary has been signed by his mother, father, wife, son and other family members. (9/9)
The difference between number of obituaries in this newspaper's Rajkot edition on April 23 (today) and Feb 23 (two months back) is staggering!

The Feb 23 edition has just 29 obituaries --- 13 with photos of the deceased and 16 text-only: sandeshepaper.in/edition/72544/…

285 vs 29!

2 months back, on Feb 26, Gujarat Samachar’s Rajkot edition had just 1 out of 17 pages for obituaries.

There were 43 obituaries — 24 with photos and 19 text-only — on that single page.

The difference is huge — 267 today vs 43 on Feb 26.
