The thing is: we have created a predatory system in which stars are completely disposable

@bootylove8 @kwlsktfsr and they have value only for as long as they're beautiful. At least most of them. And there's always someone new, younger, prettier. A dozen. A hundred. Thousands, all ready to have a go at their places, and they feel that they have to keep going to stay at the top.

@bootylove8 @kwlsktfsr (I'll take only about male celebrities in this tweets, but of course this applies just as well and probably even more to female celebrities. I'll use men as an example because that is underdiscussed and this is a great opportunity to illustrate it)

@bootylove8 @kwlsktfsr To film his shirtless scenes Chris Hemsworth had to dehydrate himself to the brink of organ failure (literally, cut food and water several days, film a few days, and then recover under medical supervision) because somehow this body is not enough for a superhero:

@bootylove8 @kwlsktfsr This is the difference between how ripped Hugh Jackman had to be between the first X-Men movie and the last Wolverine movie. This is a trend that has been going on for a couple decades:

@bootylove8 @kwlsktfsr I could go on, but my point is our standards become so unrealistic that even the people who are and define those impossible standards can't live up to them. Zac himself was one of those impossible standards and somehow we (as in, the entire world) made him

@bootylove8 @kwlsktfsr so terrified of falling from the pedestal of his own face that he went and did that to himself out of fear of not being able to live up to the very standard he incarnated.

(I may be assuming a lot of things here, but in general I feel these are reasonable assumptions)

@bootylove8 @kwlsktfsr Because that's the thing with most of those things: They don't do it because they want to, they do it because they HAVE TO. They have to stay younger at all means because there are younger people willing to take their place and the system only cares about who sells tickets.

@bootylove8 @kwlsktfsr Who is the next hot body? Who is the next pretty face? Who will be the next smashing heartthrob that will make people buy tickets so they can go watch him onscreen?

And that's what happens with al these people. That's why male models use steroids and female models get anorexia.

@bootylove8 @kwlsktfsr And that's why we see celebrities getting botched surgeries: they're willing to take the risk because the payoff is to keep their careers. When we tie the value of people that much to their physique, we create the conditions that make them try to keep the physique at any cost.

@bootylove8 @kwlsktfsr And because they're other people who get surgeries and we don't know, because we only pay attention to the failed ones to talk about them. And the successful ones become part of the impossible standard.

In short: this is a system that devours people. And we made it so they're willing to put anything on the table in a bet to continue playing for another round, and sometimes they lose.

@bootylove8 @kwlsktfsr And my original point was that: It's incredibly messed up that Zac, being Zac Efron with his Zac Efron looks that are an unattainable standard for most people, felt that he couldn't live up to himself and took that gamble and lost, at 33.

That's the messed up part.
