The big MAGAsanghi IT cell win this week has been to gaslight even a lot of indian progressives into a lot of anger and blame on Biden, 3 months into his term. And for some bizarre reason Harris whose only real constitutional power is breaking senate ties, currently a full job.
The win, spurred by the notoriously slippery Gaddar Poonawalla's tweet, was made possible because there indeed are legit problems with the restrictions and contracts. But they are the work of Trump & his default sociopathic approach to global politics. Whom magasanghis supported.
Not every or even most indian social media rants against Biden come from IT cell or sanghis. Many are progressive, well meaning, exhausted indians stretched to their absolute limit. *That* is the IT Cell and Poonawalla's win. Just like not every SSR warrior was a bhakt.
Modi first rose in the ranks and then to power because of one and only one skill. Managing the current news cycle without any regards to facts or ethics. He isn't really great at governing. Never was. But he knows how to hijack the news cycle for 48-72 hours. Repeatedly.
Also, after 7 years of Modi of which also had Trump, people seem to think that big policy changes can and should be made with ad hocb8 pm broadcasts on TV and/or tweets. That Biden can just come out and "declare" something like those megalomaniacs and wave a magic wand.
Not a single one of these restrictions or contracts were put in place by Democrats or Biden. US for all its flaws is still a nation of laws. And lawyers. Biden can't pull rabbits out of the hat instantly, as much as he would want to help. That's the Occam's Razor answer. Patience
As said repeatedly by the admin and its people, including Fauci, they are working on this. They will come through. But ranting indians need to have a sense of proportion. Until a couple of days ago, US media, social media was totally "we must all help india soon".
Since IT cell succeeded in putting some poona walla choona on everyone, there has been a lot of WTF questions and posts like, wait, when did it become our responsibility to arrange the logistics and supplies for India? Like genuine confusion. Affects raising funds overseas.
America collectively has never walked away from blame. Most reasonable people will be like, yeah, we messed up in Vietnam, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Nicaragua, global warming etc etc.

But this seems as bizarre as the national crusade against Rihanna.
But right now, we are seeing sanghi fascists who see leftist conspiracies everywhere and some leftists who see capitalist conspiracies everywhere, coming together to create this narrative. A trend created by sanghi idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
This will have absolutely no positive effect. The "let's help india and also change trump era regulations" thing was already vocal in the US.

It can only have the negative effect of turning off US people who might have made more donations or helped faster. Use honey not vinegar.
To recap
- Those who wrote the restrictions and contracts are long gone
- You are screaming at their replacement, who is genuinely trying to help, within their own constraints
- Current Indian horror unconnected to any US restrictions
- This aged well

If you are okay reading more than 280 characters at a time beyond whatsapp or podcast talking points, here is a detailed article on the complexity of the decision to suspend patent protection. Especially at this point in time. It's complicated!

Obama wrote in his book that presidents aren't there to make decisions where one option is obviously better. Those are already made by those below potus level. His and now Biden's job is to deliberate on these decisions where every option is bad.
Trump, Modi, Boris, Bolsonaro, Xi have gotten us all in this mess by being world leaders who just avoided such decisions or made ad hoc ones and then issued clarifications or excuses. That's the style we have become used to. Biden's cautious nerdy approach seems weird to some.
So this. This is how things are done when it isn't governing by twitter or 8 pm teleprompter readings.

Took 12 years to get to 15K. Thanks to gobar and his fellow sanghis QTing and SSing and "he blocked me 😠😠"ing so much, about to hit 16K in just 7 more days. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Make it happen people 😏😇
As I said in my Spaces session today, just a little bit of smart thinking and you can make them work to spread and amplify you instead of the opposite, which is what happens these days with revolver rani, sanghihotri, etc throwing out bait. 🤓

On popular demand, here are main points I made today.

1. Types of Sanghi Troll attacks

Tho whataboutery, sealioning are broadly used by neo-fascists like Trump and traditional fascists like RSS, the latter has a more specific and structured attacks to harass or distract

Serious answer. 95% of my streaming watching since quarantine is either Canadian sitcoms, black sitcoms, or David Attenborough narrated wildlife documentaries. They do wonders. I've actually measured my heart rate before and after.
Gone from a guy who rewatched The Wire and Sopranos 3 times to not having watched any drama episode in 14 months.
"Emperor penguin bodies are perfectly built for many things. Mating is not one of them."
Just that line and that penguin porn had wife and I cracking up for 10 minutes. Can't find the exact scene but how can this not make you relax?

Our apartment lease was renewed for 2 years. With covid caused drop in the Manhattan rental market, we got a 13% decrease. Which is cool cos neither wife nor I missed a paycheck throughout. So this is like finding money. Monthly cut $$ x 24 sent to #CovidIndia in 3 days. 🤓🤓
If your income was unaffected by covid but spending notably reduced cos no eating out, movies, travel etc, you also have "found" money in your account. Consider donating it to orgs working for the neediest. Or if busy, just do this. Your own stimulus plan

Remember that India has hundreds of millions of people living on daily wages, often uncertain. And India had no stimulus. While many of us elites complain of zoom fatigue, many of them suffer from hunger fatigue. Even after this second surge plateaus, think of them.

The IIT Kharagpur Seema Singh video is certainly disturbing. But not surprising if you've ever been in an Indian engineering college. A big chunk of professors take pride in acting like the drill sergeant from FMJ. And if it's dalit, tribal, muslim students, they get it extra.
Btw I'm usually a strict professor in terms of attendance, punctuality, deadlines. Not a screaming one, but smilingly firm in terms of how it'll affect grades.
But I'm also a human being living through this nightmare. These are my covid times class policies. ImageImage
The strict insistence on cameras sounds downright cruel to me. You don't know how someone's house is. Or how their hair looks because lockdown messed up their sleep cycle. Requesting them while explaining why is ok. But to penalize off cameras? Don't be Seema Singh.

Have some free time before my next Zoom so let's try a political Space.

FYI, it will be mostly me talking. And I only invite as speakers those I trust.

This was way more heavily attended than I expected! 110-120 listeners almost throughout! For a last minute heavy topic session on a whim. Gonna start planning these more. Semester ends in 3 weeks. Can put all these protips into a structured format then. Counter the propaganda.
Didn't see a record feature (just my 2nd spaces) so no. But next time I'll record on another app in the background.

Ancient sanghi wisdom says look at best practices by functioning governments around the world and do the EXACT opposite, lest you accidentally end up improving some lives and are expected to keep governing and all. Gets in the way of rallies.
Even cruel selfish chindhichor supreme Donald Trump, who initially wanted to just leave it to states, and made a LOT of other blunders, quickly realized it was a bad idea. Simple common sense. You leave it to states and you're unnecessarily creating bidding wars. Even Trump!
Even Trump, as dumb and cruel a man as he is, saw that 50 states of varying populations, economies, revenues, etc dealing separately with vaccine cos was ridiculous. Reluctantly, he approved OWS. One of very few times experts managed to teach Trump common sense.
