1. Tucker Carlson's xenophobic, racist, and bigoted content has cost him nearly all his advertisers

It's mostly an hour of MyPillow ads and promos for other Fox shows

But Fox News doesn't care

Why?

They've rigged the game

Follow along if interested

2. A primary source of revenue for Fox News is PEOPLE WHO NEVER WATCH FOX NEWS.

On average cable TV subscribers pay $1.72 per month for Fox News

But only 14% watch Fox News

That means for every viewer, Fox News receives a $7.75 subsidy from non-viewers

popular.info/p/tucker-lachl…
3.Every channel in a cable bundle receives a subsidy from non-viewers but Fox News' is FAR HIGHER than any other non-sports channel.

Fox News ($7.75)
CNN ($3.18)
TBS ($2.79)
FX ($1.79)

4. These carriage fees are Fox News' PRIMARY SOURCE OF REVENUE. In 2020, Fox News made $1.6 billion off carriage fees and $1.2 billion off advertising.

So that insulates them from advertisers leaving Tucker Carlson or any other show.

popular.info/p/tucker-lachl…
5. A substantial portion of Carlson's $10 million/year salary comes from people who find his views odious

Like Carlson's decision to use his program to advance "white replacement theory" - a racist idea explicitly cited by numerous mass murders

popular.info/p/tucker-lachl…
6. Tucker Carlson has the right to advance racist conspiracy theories or celebrate the assassination of the first LGBT elected official.

But people should have the CHOICE whether or not to pay him for this content.

popular.info/p/tucker-lachl…
7. There are two options to end Tucker Carlson's subsidy:

A. Cable companies could start offering bundles that don't include Fox News. They seem unwilling to stand up to the Murdochs, however.

B. Cut the cord

popular.info/p/tucker-lachl…
8. This has nothing to do with "free speech"

Carlson has the right to be a bigot

YOU shouldn't be forced to pay for his bigotry so you can watch Law & Order reruns

8 OF THE TOP 10 stories on Facebook yesterday were by the Daily Wire, the far-right site founded by Ben Shapiro

This is a site that does no original reporting and just aggregates other outlets with an emphasis on white grievance
Facebook says engagement on the site just reflects what people are interested in. But this is the only context in which people are interested in The Daily Wire and nothing else.
As a reminder, popular.info uncovered evidence that the Daily Wire was breaking Facebook's rules, Facebook admitted the Daily Wire was breaking Facebook's rules, and then Facebook declined to impose any penalty on Daily Wire for doing so

UPDATE: Members of the Texas legislature are seeking retribution against companies like @Dell and @AmericanAir that spoke out against voter suppression legislation.

They are attempting to punish these companies for political speech.

Follow along if interested.
@Dell @AmericanAir 2. GOP TX Rep @TomOliverson has proposed an amendment to the budget requiring corporations to "certify that the business has not publicly opposed any legislation filed in this or another state in 2020 or 2021 related to election integrity" as a condition of receiving grants
3. What's remarkable about this is that under @TomOliverson's amendment corporations SUPPORTING voter suppression laws remain eligible for grants. Under this amendment, only opposing legislation in Texas or any other state disqualifies a company.

UPDATE: In a company obtained by popular.info, @ATT CEO John Stankey says AT&T should not be held accountable for the policy views of the politicians it backs

"It's likely our employee PACs have contributed to policymakers in support of and opposed to any given issue"
@ATT .@ATT has donated 574K to the sponsors of Texas' voter suppression bill but refused to speak out against it.

Stankey says "election laws differ from state to state, are varying and complex, not our company’s expertise and ultimately the responsibility of elected officials"
@ATT .@ATT's Stankey says he's reluctant to get involved with politics but he now recognizes it's in "AT&T’s long-term interests" for him to advocate centrism.
