2/ Zed Run is a platform where you can race and breed digital horses. You can buy “genesis” horses from the Zed Run website during drops, which are usually announced by @zed_run ahead of time
3/ Genesis horses are bought directly from Zed and are the purest breed of all and cannot be reproduced. They range from Z1 to Z10, with Z1 being the best. The lower the Z, the higher the price. Example of how genesis horses were priced during one of the last drops, source: zed
4/ The drops happen on zed.run. You need ETH (not WETH) to purchase horses. Previously, drops happen on a fastest-hands basis. Zed has hinted that more equitable drops are on the way.
5/ If you do not want to wait for a drop, you can buy horses from the secondary market on matic.opensea.io. Be careful and make sure you also view the horse on zed.run because sometimes, the metadata in Matic is incorrect. Use community tools to research.
6/ Horses on the secondary market are much more expensive because of demand. But, not all horses are equal. Unraced horses cost more because their potential is unknown. Horses with good winning rates can sell for a lot. Horses with bad winning rates are usually the cheapest.
7/ Before buying a horse in the secondary market, it is important to remember that there are still 28,000 unreleased genesis horses. In fact, here’s a full list of how many of each Z have been released. Source: @RemyRacing
8/ Another thing to note is coat (or color). Colors have 3 categories: Super Rare, Rare, Common. Some people place a value on this but it is important to note that the rarity here depends only on the intended distribution of Z1 Nakamotos.
9/ You can also breed horses in Zed Run! Horses can either be male (Colt) or female (Filly). If you have a Colt, you can put it in a stud farm where people can see it and choose to mate with it. You can set your own stud fee, but Zed imposes minimums.
10/ The better your horse’s race record / rarer your horse’s coat color, the more in-demand it will be. Males can be mated with up to 7x a month. Once a colt has produced an offspring, they become ‘Stallions.’
11/ If you have a Filly, you can mate it with a Colt of your choosing. You have to pay the stud fee, but once the foal arrives, you get to keep it. Female horses can give birth up to 2x a month. Once a Filly has produced an offspring, they become ‘Mares.’
12/ Genesis horses come pre-named, but you can name your own foals.
13/ Horses have 3 characteristics that contribute to its genetic makeup. #1: The genotype is the 'Z' of the horse. The genotype of the foal is the Z of the mom + the Z of the dad.
14/ #2: The bloodline. The bloodline of bred horses depend on its parents. For example, two Nakamotos will produce a Nakamoto, but a Nakamoto and a Buterin will produce a Buterin. Full table here. Source: zed.run
15/ #3: The breed type. Breed type of bred horses depend on the breed type of its parents. For example, two genesis horses produce Legendary horses. Full table here. Source: zed.run
16/ Nakamotos are the most consistent and dominant bloodline while Buterins are the most unpredictable. Bloodline plays the most significant role in the horse’s racing ability. Better bloodline = higher chances of having a better horse. But, there is always an element of luck!
17/ Once you have a horse, you can race them too! There are free races where you can win real money, but there are also paid races (paid with WETH). Each horse has a distance it prefers, so finding that distance can help you get more wins.
