Today, the European Parliament will vote on the EU-UK Trade & Cooperation agreement.
Here's what is missing from the agreement 🧵⬇️
Strong protections on data protection, privacy & digital trade.
Without proper safeguards, the continued sharing of PNR & Prüm data is a real concern for us.
Some parts of the digital trade chapter are good, but we strongly oppose this TCA being used as a 'model' trade agreement.
Migration - the EU-UK TCA does not include provisions on future cooperation in the field of asylum & migration post-Dublin (only the Joint Political Declaration on Asylum & Returns). Family reunification will be much harder, including for unaccompanied minors.
Protection of citizens' rights on both sides of the channel.
Amid much uncertainty, there is still no 'one stop shop' for citizens' rights post-Brexit. 🇬🇧citizens in 🇪🇺 Member states all face different administrative burdens & 🇪🇺 citizens in the 🇬🇧 have problems with the EUSS.
A clear role for the European Parliament. The EP has been key in scrutinising this deal and in holding the UK government & Commission to account. The EP should have participation at Partnership Council meetings and COM should inform us before any future modification of the TCA.
Provisions on financial services. The deal does too little to prevent the 🇬🇧from undercutting high EU standards & becoming a tax / money-laundering haven, post-Brexit. The request for alignment with EU standards is missing from this EP resolution.
The @GreensEFA have tabled 15 key amendments on data protection, migration & financial services (among others) which will be voted on at 13h.
We urge all other groups to take on board these amendments in order to strengthen the final text of the EP resolution on the EU-UK TCA.
