And we're live here: We'll be tweeting some highlights. Follow this thread. #ThisisOurShotCA
Q: How long will the vaccine last and will I need a booster?
A: We don't know for sure yet, but it's likely we may need a booster. Right now it's critical people get dose #1 and we'll sort out the booster down the road!
Video Q from @GurdeepPandher : Do vaccines protect from the variants?
A: If you're worried about variants, the best thing you can do is get the vaccine, as soon as you're eligible.
Q: I've heard of Astrazeneca causing blood clots, is this true and what is the risk?
A: Great Q. We always have to put risks in perspective. We have to balance risks. Astrazeneca is safe tool to combat COVID. @clarahughes says she got Astrazeneca yesterday
Q: I have a lot of allergies, should I get the vaccine
A: Most allergies are not a concern. If you're allergic to any of the components of the vaccine (this is exceedingly rare), talk to your doctor.
Q: Should I get vaccinated if I've had COVID?
A: YES! Even if you've had a COVID infection, you do need to get your vaccination. As for timing, guidelines say as soon as public health has cleared you, you're out of isolation, get the vaccine you're eligible for.
Q: Why do I need to keep wearing my mask and distancing if these vaccines are so great?
A: It takes time to develop immunity after you've had your shot..After 2nd dose, you're protected but we don't know if you can transmit. Until majority of Canadians are vaccinated, wear a mask
Q: from @perditafelicien is the vaccine safe for pregnant women?
A: All women should be vaccinated anytime during the pregnancy as the vaccines don't just protect the mother to be but the unborn child.
Q: will the vaccine effect a woman's menstrual cycle and fertility?
A: there is no current scientific evidence that the vaccine will negatively effect a woman's menstrual cycle or fertility.
Q: How do I talk to friends and family who are hesitant to get the vaccine?
A: ask your loved ones why they are hesitant so you can understand their fears and concerns. Explain the reasons why you are taking the vaccine. Share the FAQs from thisisourshot.ca
Q: Will I need the vaccine to travel? Will their be vaccine passports?
A: Short answer... there are a lot of opinions and unknowns. First thing we have to do is ensure you get a vaccine and that here in Canada we follow the health recommendations of professionals.
Q: What symptoms can people look for if they get AZ and are concerned about blood clots?
A: Pay attention to symptoms such as prolonged headaches and shortness of breath 4-20 days after you get vaccinated. If you do please contact your local healthcare provider.
Q: Is COVID-19 ever going to end?
A: We are all tired and we are inundated with bad news. But... we can guarantee that we will get through this together and this will end. The best way is to take your shot!
Q: When will children get vaccinated? Has there been any movement in getting children under 12 vaccinated?
A: There are continuing and promising trials for children from the age of 6 months and up. And we are confident that children will be getting vaccinated soon.
Q: Will there be any longterm adverse side effects with the mRNA vaccines?
A: It is extremely rare to have adverse longterm side effects.
Q: I am terrified about getting the AZ vaccine at my local pharmacy... should I still get it?
A: Understand your concerns and fears but it is the right thing to do and the research has shown that negative impacts of the vaccine are extremely rare.
Q: Are vaccines safe for people with autoimmune disease?
A: Have spoken to rheumatologists and they are advising their patients to take vaccines. People with autoimmune diseases are more likely to contact COVID so it is even more important to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
Q: When should pregnant women receive a vaccine?
A: Looking at the recommendations from experts it is safe to get vaccinated in any trimester.
Q: Can I take Tylenol of Advil before my shot so I don't get side effects?
A: It is not advised. We actually want you to get side effects as it shows the vaccine is working.
Q: What are the chances with all the cases in Canada right now that we get a Canadian Variant?
A: There is always a slim possibility but the faster we get people vaccinated the less chance.
Q: Can people who have been vaccinated hang out together?
A: Be cautious, be patient, and don't take any risks.
Q: from @wick_22... what are you going to do when COVID ends?
A: Going to spend more time with my family. Go on vacation. Stay off my computer. Sleep a lot. See my family. See my loved ones.
