Imagine people think you stole your own child or you are just the nanny… I don’t get why people have such closed minds to think that parents can’t have kids that do not look like them... like why is there this negative idea behind a black woman adopting a white child? #njcurj
It is sad that there are many transracial adoptive families that have to defend themselves all the time because of things like racism and misconceptions exist… #njcurj
If you plan on going for transracial adoption make sure that you check your own biases and prejudices because just as much as other peoples can hurt so can your own… make sure you understand and educate yourself #njcurj
All these people that are continuing to adopt transracially are the agents of change because they show that we can love just to love... Skin color or background are not factors for love! #njcurj
Truth is when parents say “I don’t see color” if they have a transracial adoptive kid they are adding to a problem, truth is they need to see color. Color plays a big part in experiences a child will or will not have and as a parent you need to understand the difference #njcurj
If you are thinking of transracial adoption education is very important. Having race conversations are a must and although it can be hard there are ways to make it easier. It is not your childs job to educate you on the experience of what it means to be to be colored #njcurj
It’s crazy that the identity of being black can be taken away or being seen as a “real black” can be taken away if you are black raised in a white family. It is like you are trying to “please” the black side of you but also if you want to belong you need to act white #njcurj
Family is not always about blood or looking alike. Family is about the people who stepped up to the plate and loved you like their own. Family are the people who show up and show out each and every day. Your parents didn't gave you the gift of life but life gave you them #njcurj
When you hear the term “transracial adoption” it is most likely talking about white parents adopting a black child. It is important that your child learns that racism is not about them, but it is about the ignorance of others. #njcurj @JenniferMusial
