Looks like the Illuminati Conspiracy theory was invented by the hard core conservative John Birch Society, not by Kerry Thornley in 1969, as he claimed.
Thread:
In 1961 it was promoted by the Daughter of a John Bircher and granddaughter of Theodore Roosevelt in syndicated article.
In 1967 the founder of the John Birch Society Robert Welch promoted the idea in a very long article.
and John Bircher, John Steinbacher, made it the focus of his 1968 book.
It should also be noted that Thornley attended and promoted the Freedom School, which was financed by John Birchers, so even he was John Birch connected.
Found an even earlier one. 1958 R.C. Hoiles "Freedom Newspaper" (Hoiles funded the Freedom School and was closely align with the John Birch Movement.)
