@kaushikcbasu The virus originated in China
Despite highest population,if data is correct
1.They restricted it to Wuhan province
2.MedicalResponse was on war footing
3.Administered vaccines to 260 million
4.Overall 4000+ deaths & 0 infections now
5.Liquid oxygen,concentrators bought from China
@kaushikcbasu This is not in praise of autocracy or Chinese opaqueness, but their economy has recovered
And being in the same S.A. neighborhood, whether it is by quarantine or whatever means, they have turned it around & not let infections, new strains to spread again.
@kaushikcbasu Whether it is our businesses importing components/ finished goods..to oxygen concentrators,we are dependent on Chinese, despite AtmaNirbar slogan
Citizens are left on our own to procure medicines,O2 from black market
A year after,China’s economy is beating world & expected @8.2%
@kaushikcbasu @8 And they have tried & intruded & taken 1000's of sq kms of land & have tried to take away strategic areas adjoining the border areas in Arunachal, Sikkim, JK
@kaushikcbasu @8 What the Chinese did when they had a crisis, you might recall, literally, within a few days to weeks they built these emergency units that served as hospitals to take care of people. It was an accomplishment that everybody marvelled at. It should be replicated

The 3 basic ingredients of a vaccine policy for a pandemic of this kind are clear. Do whatever it takes to make sure there are enough supplies (the right procurement contract, capital subsidies, capacity expansion, and, if need be, the suspension of intellectual property rights
Centrally procure vaccines, but give states operational flexibility. And distribute them free. This is essentially what the United States did. And do all of this as fast as possible, if we are to prevent new mutants from arising.
Instead, what we got in vaccine policy is a bizarre combination of ruthlessness and managing the headlines. First, there is a scarcity of vaccines and will be for a while because we did not get our capacity expansion and procurement contracts right.

Creating multiple price points for different categories of vaccine buyers will breed confusion. This will likely slow down vaccine procurement, as multiple buyers negotiate with manufacturers about purchase quantities, delivery logistics, and payment plans.
When so many buyers are in a queue to purchase vaccines, private manufacturers could be in a position to determine public health outcomes. That is untenable. This confusion will clog vaccine logistics, delay the vaccine programme, and prolong the Covid-19 crisis.
The easiest way to ensure maximum coverage is to offer vaccines for free to everyone. By creating a private market for vaccines, in a situation where supply is limited, the better-off sections of society will get to jump the queue. That is unconscionable during this crisis
