A thread on residents of a housing society coming together to fight the pandemic and support each other.
Our RWA election is due later this month. Early April, candidates published their manifesto on society's social platform. And so starts the verbal exchange which can only...
...vitiate the atmosphere & doesn't lead anywhere good. Usually I ignore such scenes but that day I wasn't amused. I suggested that rather than promising what they'd do once elected, it'll be a good idea to show what they can actually do by helping the families right now.
I don't know what clicked with them & with other residents. But someone came forward with one idea. And lo & behold, we've so many people volunteering, helping each other.
In last 3 weeks, our society arranged -
1 Testing camps twice ensuring reports are fast-tracked
2 Vaccine drive. Trying for another one
3 Food service for impacted families. One lady volunteered, started with 10 plates. Now quite a few have joined her. They are up now to around 100 plates, serving meals in neighboring societies too
4 Covid Runners to help shop for med, groceries, etc for elderlies living alone
5 Emergency fund for society staff
6 Placed order for concentrators
7 Sessions with in house Doctors to educate families & staff; ...etc.
These ideas may not be unique & we may make mistakes...
...but there's a sense of purpose. We may not be doing well but we are not alone and we will beat this.
I'm sure we'll start with our bickering, flaunting who did what, on the other side of this wave but for now I will take this.
