Does Alcohol KILL Gains?

// THREAD //
So what happens when our body processes alcohol?

Alcohol actually impairs muscle protein synthesis (MPS).

Why does this matter?

MPS (pro muscle growth) is one side of the teeter-totter and muscle protein breakdown or MPB (anti muscle growth) is the other.
If MPB is greater than MPS, then you lose muscle.

But if MPS is greater than MPB, you grow muscle.

So in other words, alcohol can be considered anti-muscle growth.

BUT, we're not just gonna stop drinking...

So here's how to approach drinking to STILL grow muscle:
1) Consume your protein requirement before you drink

So ideally, we're working out early morning and consuming 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight BEFORE we start drinking later.

This gives us the best chance to get to most MPS out of the protein we eat.
2) Don't get absolutely wasted

In reality, having a few drinks has a very minimal impact on our muscle growth.

What does have a significant impact is if you're getting drunk on a consistent basis.

If you're always wasted, you simply don't give a fuck about growing muscle.
3) Stay hydrated.

Alcohol dehydrates you.
And it screws up glycogen storage.

You need both for the best muscle growth.

If you plan to drink, make water throughout the day a priority.
Personally, I still enjoy alcohol and see great results.

This comes down to personal preference and sustainability.
P.S. Want to get 6-pack abs while drinking alcohol?

I'm looking for 3 people to add to my crew.

I will design systems for your 3 pillars of fitness.

You will have 24/7 access to me.

You will transform your body PERIOD.

If you want 2026 to be the year you finally thrive...

You need to stop making the same mistakes everyone else makes in January.

Here are 10 that will sabotage you (and what to do instead):
1. Setting vague goals

“I want to get healthy” sounds good…

But it’s too vague.

Fix it:

• Make your goal specific.
• Define what success looks like.
• Example: “I’ll lose 10 lbs in 3 months by eating 1800 calories and working out 4x/week.”

Clarity leads to action.
2. Not having a plan

A goal without a plan is just a wish.

Fix it:

• Break your goal into actionable steps.
• Schedule those steps into your calendar.
• Example: Meal prep every Sunday or allocate $200/month to savings.

Execution beats intention.

An inflamed body is a sick body.

It’s the root cause of most chronic disease:

• Cancer
• Diabetes
• Heart disease

8 foods that eliminate inflammation at the root: Image
1. Extra-virgin olive oil

Liquid gold.

High in oleocanthal – the same anti-inflammatory compound found in ibuprofen.

If it doesn’t burn your throat a little, it’s fake. Be sure to control the calories.
2. Wild-caught fatty fish (salmon, sardines, mackerel)

Omega-3s lower CRP and calm systemic inflammation.

Most people are drowning in omega-6s and starving for these.

The average Spaniard lives nearly 10 years longer than the average American.

Yet they:

• Drink wine
• Eat bread daily
• Rarely go to the gym

So how are they some of the healthiest people on earth?

These 6 main factors make all the difference (copy them): Image

1. Spain's Food Supply Works With Their Bodies

Walk through a grocery store in Madrid vs. America:

Spain:

• Fresh, local ingredients
• Food cooked from scratch
• Minimal processing
• Real ingredients you can pronounce

America has incredible food access, but we've overcomplicated it.

The solution?
Get back to basics.

Shop the perimeter.

Cook more.

Read labels.

Simple beats complicated every time.

2. Fatty Fish

Left: Lost, Overweight & Depressed
Right: Jacked, Man of God, Happiest I've ever been

It didn’t happen overnight…

But here are the 8 habits that changed my life: Image
1. I started my day with God, not my phone.

Before checking emails, social media, or texts, I open my Bible.

10 minutes of scripture sets my mind on eternal things, not temporal stress.

When you win the morning spiritually, you win the day physically.
2. I made movement non-negotiable.

Not "when I feel like it." Not "if I have time."

Every. Single. Day.

Whether it's lifting, walking, or playing pickleball - my body moves daily.

God gave you a body that thrives on movement. Honor that design.

The strongest predictor of how long you’ll live:

Grip Strength.

It’s not just about "being strong"…

It’s a direct reflection of your overall health.

Here’s why grip strength matters, what it reveals, and how to improve it:
1. What Is Grip Strength?

Grip strength = how much force your hand can produce when squeezing.

But it’s more than just hand power.

It reflects:

• Nervous system health
• Muscle quality
• Coordination
• Hormonal balance

And it’s one of the most reliable health markers we have.
2. Why Grip Strength Predicts Longevity

Study after study shows this:

The weaker your grip, the higher your risk of:

• Heart disease
• Stroke
• Cancer
• Cognitive decline
• Early death

It’s more predictive than blood pressure, BMI, or cholesterol.
