/5 We did some 'real world' testing of augmented reality #arjs this weekend in Norwich for #futureform. This is a project for @NNFest launching in May and funded by @ace_national - we have built the whole thing in 'open source' with help from a group of great people. No app!
/5 Creating the art, we used watercolour, yes, real paint, then digitised the art back in. We wanted to create an aesthetic that fits the medieval nature of the story written by Imogen Hermes Gowar. The life of Lady Eleanor Talbot who is buried in Norwich.
/5 In field tests we needed to reduce the size of the assets even more, allowing for variations in cell bandwidth and types of phone. The #arjs code base however is great for quickly getting stuff running & owes much to the work of #jeromeetienne & @nicolocarp + others.
/5 There is variability! Don't expect to put an AR object exactly on something, so 5 metres is a good range. But there is some real magic when you use transparent art. We have deployed the 'anti-shake' code with the help of @nicolocarp - testing today!
/5 We now have a great team to make outdoor #arjs AR projects. We'll post some more today on tests. Get in touch if you have an AR project or story. We will not over-hype something & we love open source. Massive thanks to @moongolfer & @RebeccaStott64, along with @uealdc
