The importance of having a strong grassroots healthcare system. A neighbor in Kerala developed severe COVID and had to be taken in an ambulance. But another neighbor had a daughter who had had a psychological episode...
... recently which doc said could be strain due to the lockdown and two sudden deaths nearby. The arrival of an ambulance could be a trigger for her. Now, the local ASHA worker knew this...
so she called ahead and told the family that an ambulance will be coming and not to worry. She also got the ward member involved and they ensured that the ambulance arrived without the sirens. The hospitalisation went without a hitch.
You need macro-level planning as well as micro-level dedication for a robust system.
Also, the neighbors I am talking about are not the well-off. These are BPL households. This care is available to them.
