The new Arenas mode in #ApexLegends looks awesome. As a challenge, I timeboxed myself a few hours over the weekend to design a space for it. I used only the gameplay trailer to figure out the scale/general layout. Here's what I have so far. 1/7
Here is the top-down
So, my daughter is super into spiders and ants ATM. That’s where the main focal point came from. Maybe its gathering/filtering water and got destroyed/ broke down. It’s split in half and would have interiors and ziplines attached from the nearby cliffs. 2/7
The legs are climbable, bent in weird angles, and broken to offer some fun navigation/KOTH moments.
I'm not an expert on Apex lore, but there's a lot of weird giant machines and dinosaurs. So this is fine, right? 3/7
Big center pieces =👍 But in PvP I've always felt its best to have strong subthemes or smaller elements scattered about that break things up, give areas an identity and support different playstyles. 4/7
So, on one side I threw in a big cave with a waterfall inside. This area is more closed off and mostly raised. On the opposite side of the map, there's some standard Kings Canyon type buildings, bridges, accessible cliffs, and a bit more room to breathe. 5/7
I tried to keep things in line with the open but funnel-y vibes you get from Apex. I also focused a lot on circles (not literal) and wider lanes. This is super rough which was part of the challenge, but still more detail and color than you would typically see on a first pass. 6/7
Its not at all done. Ideas and assumptions right now which is how it usually goes, right? Next up will be the cover, loot, & movement pass and probably some layout adjustments after playing the real Arenas mode. If only I could upload it to a server to make it all worth it! 7/7
