The scale of our tragedy (in Kutch, Gujarat):

Kutchmitra newspaper today has 114 obituaries -- 100 text-only and 14 with photos.

It had 18 obituaries exactly two years back, on May 5, 2018.

18 to 114.

Kutchmitra has one edition only - from Bhuj city of Kutch district.

Here are the pages from two years back that contain 18 obituaries (13 text-only & 5 with photos):

Please note:

1. Gujarat govt's data says only 6 persons died of Covid in the last 2 days in Kutch district.

2. Not everyone who has lost a loved one gets an obituary published. Especially not the poor.

3. Kutchmitra's Editor Deepak Mankad on April 24 questioned Guj govt's Covid death statistics.

In his editorial, he said when relatives these days are asked the cause of death of the deceased - whose obituary has to be published - most of them reply with one answer only: Corona
4. The aforementioned figure of 114 is from today's Kutchmitra.

I have not checked Bhuj editions of other Gujarati newspapers.

5. People are not just a statistic.
