There have been comments about negative things being said about nurses lately.

Negative things have been said about doctors, teachers, all of us in public health, and about everybody and their uncle and third cousin. Nobody benefits from this.

(Thread)
Nobody benefits from pointing fingers without all the facts.

Everybody benefits from sober reviews and checks and balances and thorough investigations.

And on the human level, attacks and judgment and criticism with anger are pure poison to the person who spews that emotion.
It is absolutely to be expected that people are scared. And it is absolutely to be expected that a lot of people are unaware their attacks are actually an inability to handle fear/other feelings in a healthy way.

Yes, everybody has to be held accountable for actions/ decisions.
Anyone not currently being held accountable will be in the future; that sucks for all of us right now.

But emotional dysregulation, bullying, & attacks only show us how much need there is in Ont. How many people aren't emotionally/relationally well.

Our province is hurting.
Every single public servant that puts the public first, that holds their responsibility as paramount, and that did all they could to make things right during this COVID atrocity, are simply doing what they signed up for.

The privilege of service includes great demands.
And anyone in service who suffered emotionally or mentally and had to get out, also did the right thing.

The entire province is hurting.

Those still standing are no better than those who are not. Because everyone at least stood, and did their best for each person they served.
Attacks = red flag for hurt. Hurt people Hurt Other People.

We support/rehab child bullies. There's not much yet for ppl over 18 who aren't self aware.

Support those attacked. Do all you can to get support yourself.

The province is hurting.Turn towards each other

Seeing posts abt schools in Ontario & I'm wondering if people have the info needed about schools.

There's been wonderfully low covid in schools, far better than any other setting that's essential.

School ain't great fun (masks, distancing) but it's definitely best for most. 1/7
By far the majority of cases in schools come from home. The increasing numbers of kids with Covid has continued to pace w/ community spread

But the layers of controls in schools are working, even in places that are the worst in Ontario.

I wonder if that information is known 2/7
There are exceptions, they're orders of magnitude less than other settings.

Meanwhile, when schools close, increases in domestic violence, child abuse, domestic shelter, mental health calls are across all types of families and all types of social strata.

I hope parents know 3/7

Everyone has added chronic daily stress since March. And now, it's late August so it's time for school.

And you know what? Niagara has stepped up again, education now, like each sector has in the last 5 months.

I have some thoughts...
I come from a family of many teachers. Dad, mom, sibling, aunt, cousins & so on. Many taught in inner city Philadelphia as I grew up.

(I was the one that said that teaching would be too hard for me and instead went away to university and did the doctor thing.)

Fast forward...
In the last month, I have talked almost daily with many parents and others, answering questions about COVID, about what we have learned since March, and what the Ministry of Education is requiring.

It was/is a whirlwind for families; so much noise out there, and so little time.

Go #Niagara! For taking this seriously, washing hands, not touching yer face, & keeping a distance. We're able to learn from other countries and many regions in Ontario ahead of us in #'s of cases and with community spread. Be prepared. We're chasing down the virus for now.
Chasing the virus by finding cases and managing those at risk has been an extremely effective approach worldwide in the successful countries. Our hotline has short wait times now but thank you all for your patience as we ramped up.
This containment phase might not last long. Be prepared for more closures and make plans for how you would proceed in terms of daily activities. Remember that essential services would stay open.
