/n I am so tired of mine and other Native Hawaiian perspectives being marginalized because we support #TMT. It is extremely offensive to see outsiders, marginalized or not, trying to control the framing of this conversation because they think they understand the dynamics here.
/n Too many times I’ve seen allies who read a few articles, think they know our culture, history, and experiences, then end up trying to assert their own perspectives into our conversation.
/n This only adds to work we as a community need to do in trying to educate those who feel the need to be involved so as to prevent them from doing more harm than good. It is painful and exhausting beyond measure.
/n If you are not a part of our Hawaiian or island community, then you should not be speaking on our behalf. We don’t need you to, nor want you to. You need to respect our community’s right to frame our own conversations.
/n I absolutely miss you Kālepa. I will always remember how hard you worked for the growth of our culture and people. I will do my best to continue advocating for our beliefs and visions through @ohanakilohoku@alohapueo. A hui hou my dear mentor, friend and colleague.
