There is a popular notion in society that a mother is someone who has to sacrifice for the sake of others. Ours is a male dominated society where the vestiges of feudal culture are still prevalent. Capitalism profits from exploiting gender inequality. +
The notion of the sacrificing mother is derived from the conservative value system that comes from these. The glorification of this conservative notion becomes a tool to encage the liberty and freedom of women. +
In all family affairs, whether domestic work or child care or financial matters, women and men should play an equal part. One person's sacrifice should not become the freedom of another. The time has come to correct the unjust consciousness that we follow. +
Correcting one's outlook and habits is a very difficult task. Let us take the political work that is required to more effectively implement in our lives the righteous values of gender equality put forward by the Left as our important responsibility. +
On this Mother's Day, let us welcome mothers with both hands into the vast world outside the walls of the house. Let us all become mothers who are ready to sacrifice oneself for the good of others. +
Let that readiness to sacrifice oneself become the strength for us to overcome the crisis created by the pandemic and move forward to a New Kerala. Heartfelt Mother's Day wishes to all.
