Our cheerleader and Truman scholar, Hayden Richardson, wrote an honors thesis that was co-advised by the former Dean of the Law School. She interviewed cheerleaders. Let’s look at what it says 🧵
Black cheerleaders complained about a pervasive atmosphere of racist harassment. They were banned, contractually, from wearing natural hair or wearing their hair in braids. When one showed up w curls, the coach grabbed her head and said she was “disrespectful”
Her mother called Polisky - he dismissed her complaint and said her daughter would have to handle handle it herself.
So how do our athletes feel about our new athletic director? “It feels sad, especially being a woman athlete. He . . .has so blatantly, time and time again, shown that he disregards women and does not believe in women.” insidenu.com/2021/5/11/2242…
This report finds no support for Polisky among students (at best they are “neutral,” and many strongly opposed.) So where do you stand, coaches @NU_Sports? With your students or with your new boss?
And what about you @StudentAffNU? You’ve been very quiet. These are your students, too. Aren’t we supposed to respond to student concerns about racism and harassment?
