When I experienced this uniquely Indian government CAPTCHA limbo that time to book train tickets, it felt annoying, not life threatening. Today, CAPTCHA has become a gatekeeping hurdle for vaccinations in India. Dangers to elevating mediocre tech execs to hallowed positions.
These are just a few tweets on my TL about the buggy CAPTCHA hurdle bizarrely put in place for the vaccine in India. Which a) as Ghaywan notes, inherently favors the elites, and b) not working even for elites!

Really, what work does Modi do 18 hrs a day?
And in true fascist gaslighting traditions, they talk up this "digital backbone" thing as some huge cutting edge tech by Nilekani & co. Whereas Nilekani and co's tech expertise is firmly rooted in the Orkut era. And we are living in tiktok times. Obviously, fails abound.
Again, I've been in covid hit NYC throughout the pandemic. In Feb 21 when demand was higher than supply, lots of NYers were tweeting complaints about not getting appointments online. No one was complaining about captcha or otp or QR code or anything "digital".
Demand-supply mismatch in vaccines is a reality. It's a big enough hurdle to get appointments anyway. You need a specifically exclusionary fascist mentality to add captcha and 2FA/OTP hurdles for a vaccine everyone eventually needs anyway. Fabricating hurdles to favor elites.
Also, sorry @anantha for making light of this when you first tweeted about it. :(
NY got a lot of things wrong in responding to covid, but they did this absolutely right. If everyone has so get the vaccine anyway, what is the point of treating it like logging into a secure bank account?

This is another example of the government of the most capitalist city of the most capitalist country having the right priorities in a pandemic that can literally kill anyone next week. But sanghis keep trying "market solutions" while mass pyres burn.

Sanghi rw space in which bhakts are yelling at muslims.

twitter.com/i/spaces/1eaKb…
Ooooh I have been made a speaker 😁
Now an RSS lady is in the space arguing for a second amendment type right to bear arms in India. Yeah, the one tragedy we don't experience in India, random mass shootings, she wants to start in India as well. This is today's sanghis. More guns in India!

बास का राओ! (Marinating in just salt, pepper, chili powder, lemon. That's enough for this delicious fish)
Got 3 local wild whole fish today. Any personal recos for a fish head soup? I was thinking Vietnamese style but open to other suggestions. At an airbnb so supplies limited.
Whoops, bass is too big for the biggest pan here! Fish head and tail soup absolutely inevitable cos they didn't get cooked!

Cooking skills are very useful when wife's birthday weekend is the same as Mother's Day weekend, that too in a mostly vaccinated upstate NY just coming out of a pandemic. It's harder to get a table than even on Valentine's Day. 😁😁
My HEHEHE when the yolk turns out to be perfectly poached sounds so ominous when it was actually a proud one 😂😂😂
Bass, trout, cod lined up to be tawa fried. This birthday on mother's day weekend gourmet level cooking (modest!) has made me realize how much I miss hosting dinner parties. Yo NYC moots, kitchen is open for business. Let's plan a much delayed @saliltripathi welcome dinner.

TIL that deer see the color orange as green so it's hard for them to spot tigers. So many years I wondered, the tiger looks so gorgeous, but how the hell does it not get spotted a mile away? Nothing around is that color in India!
Btw this learning came from Netflix's #Lifeincolor by David Attenborough. So cool to see how different animals and insects see the visual spectrum so differently from us.
I feel so vindicated cos I argued (very respectfully) with a couple of teachers about this a lot. 😂😂 Like come on, how can a predator be that gorgeous and striking? How? And they would be like, brown orange soil and I'm like nah, that works for lions. Tigers be bright! 1

I keep seeing screenshots of Nilakantan Rajaraman, another craven misogynist who prefers to hide his sick mind behind convenient handles like "puram politics" or "the maanga" or suchlike. Here's a thread on this depraved individual and why you should block him.
If you're old enough to have read blogs in their heyday 15-20 years ago, you will remember Nilu. Throwing around the word "cunt" at any woman who challenged him. It was a frequent thing in early to mid 2000s indian blogs. He'd call someone a "cunt", then giggle at the outrage.
And if a woman still had the temerity to push back, she was featured in his "puke of the day" posts. And his fellow incel minions then flooded the comments of those women bloggers. Traumatized them big time. Just so Nilakantan Rajaraman could have a giggle at a woman's expense.

Fun little known fact inspired by this absolutely gorgeous shot. If you're ever lost in Central Park and want to return to the concrete jungle, every lamp post is like a GPS location.
1st 2 digits - nearest street
Last 2 digits - lower at the thin lines, even east, odd west.
So 6803 on the lamp means you're really close to 68th street and Central Park West,
6802 means you're really close to 68th St and 5th avenue
6842 means you're along 68th street but at the centre of the park, slightly to the east.
Etc.

Little known nerdy fact to navigate.
Most visitors to Central Park, even most NYC residents, assume it is this huge gorgeous wildernesses that leaves the original Manhattan untouched and gives us a slice of its non concrete existence.
That's only partially true. That "wilderness" originally looked very different.
