Because I'm a masochist, I will live-tweet Anderson Cooper's interview with Caitlyn Jenner this evening, so that you don't have to watch it. Follow along here. ๐
Part of the challenge of live-tweeting a discussion with Jenner is that she rambles like someone who doesn't know what she's talking about. Because she doesn't. I'll do my best to cover all I can.
Dana Bash: "What kind of training do you have to be Governor of California?"
Jenner responds that she's an entrepreneur. Sigh.
Dana Bash: This state is the 5th largest economy in the world. Do you feel qualified to lead it?
Jenner: Yes, because I'm going to surround myself with great people. (paraphrase)
Bash asks who.
Jenner says she wants to protect their privacy.
"I would freeze taxes. I would freeze regulations. No more taxes and regulations."
Bash: But Gov. Newsom hasn't offered any new taxes in years.
Jenner: Yes, but I would freeze the taxes (?).
Bash asks if the 2020 elections were stolen and asked if Pres. Biden is our duly-elected president.
Jenner: "He is our president. I respect that. There is a lot of frustration over that election. You know what? I'm frustrated."
What?
Bash: Do you believe the election was stolen?
Jenner: No, I believe in the system [and keeps rambling] and then implies elections need to be fixed.
Bash: So, you're Republican.
Jenner: Well, I'm sorta Republican.
I get the sense that Jenner has watched some TV shows about politics and basically regurgitates phrasing and buzzwords about courting people in a populist way, but even she doesn't really understand what she's trying to say.
Gosh, nothing says "relates to voters" like giving a tour of your massive ranch and talking about your children's horses.
Jenner tells Bash that she asked her kids to stay out politics.
Bash brings up Kim Kardashian. Points out she's very involved in politics. Seems to imply: where is she?
Jenner says she's not involving Kim in the campaign but then "I can't say we haven't discussed it".
Oh.
Bash: You wouldn't be where you are without sports. Does that make you feel differently about trans girls in sports? (paraphrase)
Jenner: It wouldn't have been fair for me to transition and compete in sports. (paraphrase)
Jenner is on national television telling millions of viewers an opinion that is completely at odds with medical experts, the NCAA, and the reality that there is zero evidence that trans kids in sports are a problem anywhere in this country.
"I just want to protect women's sports."
I cannot emphasize enough that Jenner is dead wrong in her framing. She's taking an anti-trans position and couching in protecting women's sports when even women cis professional athletes have come out in support of trans girls in sports.
When she goes on national television and props up Republican propaganda against trans kids, remember there are millions of cis people unaware of the truth on this issue who simply think "well, she's a trans woman, she would know" and simply accept it.
I just really can't emphasize enough how much damage Caitlyn Jenner is doing to trans children with these media appearances, while full well knowing she's completely wrong.

Today, Rep. Liz Cheney will be voted out of leadership by her Republican House colleagues for refusing to back down in a condemnation of Trump and his role in the Jan. 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. A few quick thoughts on this.
Rep. Cheney is absolutely in the right, and yes, her speech last night was powerful. But it is critically important that we all acknowledge something: she was elected to this leadership position in the first place because of lies, disinformation, and an abdication of ethics.
Rep. Cheney bears a great deal of responsibility along with the other leaders among her GOP colleagues in fostering the conditions for what led to the Jan. 6th attack. We need to acknowledge this. More importantly: she needs to acknowledge it.
I've been posting a lot about anti-trans stuff lately, which can be a huge bummer for many reasons, partly for the way it overshadows wonderful moments of trans people just being treated like anyone else. So, I have a nice memory for you this morning... (thread)
A few years ago, my friend @rpbp was at GW Hospital (she's recovered nicely now), and I went to visit most days during my lunch break. The entrance is next to the Metro and GW campus, so it's not unusual to see folks selling merch or generally hanging out.
Maybe the second or third day I went to visit her, I noticed five or six older gentlemen had a chess table set up and were playing each other, smoking, having a good time. And I love playing chess, so...
Caitlyn Jenner is appearing on Hannity this evening. I'm gonna watch to see if Hannity uses her authentic pronouns and how she responds. Because I just have a hunch.
You may follow along with my live-tweeting without having to watch.
Gosh, I haven't watched Hannity since, like, 2004. My aunt back then was a huge fan. We, uh... don't talk anymore.
I would never be so bold as to claim with 100% certainty that I'm hot, but I mean... the evidence speaks for itself. I can't help that. Hot is hot. I am hot.
Thank you for coming to my TEDยฎ Talk.
Listen, if you can't occasionally use Twitter to troll transphobes with grandiose personal statements, I don't really know why we're all here.
