"Ian Lipkin..who in March 2020 pointed to a natural origin..now sounds more skeptical. 'We may never know the origin of SARS-CoV-2. I am concerned that scientists from..WIV did not take adequate precautions when cultivating bat viruses'"

"Lipkin..cites research with dangerous viruses carried out in Wuhan before the pandemic in laboratories with a medium level of biosafety."
"Ian Lipkin..fue otro de los..expertos que apuntaron en.2020 a un origen natural..Su discurso suena ahora más escéptico. “Quizá nunca sabremos el origen del SARS-CoV-2. Me preocupa que los científicos del WIV no tomasen las precauciones adecuadas al cultivar virus de murciélagos"
"Lipkin..cita investigaciones con virus peligrosos realizadas en Wuhan antes de la pandemia en laboratorios con un nivel medio de bioseguridad."

"[C]onsider the contrast with how disasters like..nuclear accidents at Chernobyl and Fukushima..were..covered. The importance of how the accidents happened,..to prevent recurrence, was obvious from the get-go. Why hasn't the same been true..for..COVID-19?"
theweek.com/articles/98215…
"We still need to know what happened in Wuhan because that is the only way pressure can be brought to bear to prevent it from happening again."
"If you believe nuclear power has an important role.. to play in fighting climate change (as I do), then you ought to want safety questions investigated as aggressively and thoroughly as possible, so that the public has confidence when a reactor is pronounced safe."

"A group of 18 scientists stated Thursday in a letter published in the journal Science that there is not enough evidence to decide whether a natural origin or an accidental laboratory leak caused the Covid-19 pandemic."

nytimes.com/2021/05/13/sci…
"The list of signers includes researchers with deep knowledge of the SARS family of viruses, such as Ralph Baric at the University of North Carolina, who had collaborated with the Chinese virologist Shi Zhengli in research done at the university on the original SARS virus."
"While this group of scientists does not single out any researchers by name, the letter finds fault with those who have also been vocal in supporting the theory of a natural origin, citing a lack of evidence."

"Whether or not an investigation uncovers the source of covid-19.., Lipsitch says, he believes there needs to be more public scrutiny of laboratory research involving viruses that have the potential to spread out of control."
"'I’d like to see the attention focus on the regulation of dangerous experiments, because we’ve seen what a pandemic can do to us all, and we should be extremely sure before we do anything that increases that probability"

In the wake of any disaster--a train derailment, a plane crash, a rocket explosion, a reactor meltdown, a terror attack or a war--the causes of the disaster are investigated and the findings are used to inform policy changes to reduce the risks and the impacts of future disasters
In the wake of the COVID-19 disaster--the greatest disaster the world has faced since since World War II--an investigation of the causes of the disaster and policy changes to reduce the risk and impact of similar future disasters are urgently needed.
However, no such investigation has occurred. (WHO mission was not set up to be an investigation, did not operate as an investigation, provided absolutely no new information, and as such cannot, even in principle, help reduce the risks and the impacts of similar future disasters.)

Origin of Covid — Following the Clues
Did people or nature open Pandora’s box at Wuhan?

Excellent long read.

(Although it is dismaying the article states "the first serious look at origins" date to April 2020, when, in fact, the origin scenarios discussed in the article were spelled out in the scientific press already in January 2020 and in the general press already in February 2020.)

SARS-CoV-2 elimination, not mitigation, creates best outcomes for health, the economy, and civil liberties

(As has been obvious to anyone with a functioming brain since Jan-Feb 2020.)

thelancet.com/journals/lance…
"COVID-19 deaths per 1 million population in OECD countries that opted for elimination (Australia, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, and South Korea) have been about 25 times lower than in other OECD countries that favoured mitigation"
"[E]limination is preferable to mitigation in relation to a country's economic performance..GDP growth returned to pre-pandemic levels in early 2021 in the five countries that opted for elimination, whereas growth is still negative for the other 32 OECD countries."
