The NRA is not just a terrorist organization. Not just a front for pro-Russian anti-American interests. It is, at it's core, a giant ATM for one extremely douchie dude - Wayne Lapierre. A THREAD.
On May 11, 2021, the Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas dismissed the NRA's petition for bankruptcy. I haven't read it yet, so I'll tweet as I go. I do have a pre-existing concept of the NRA's massive grift, however.
If you want to read the decision yourself, it is embedded in this article: washingtonpost.com/context/federa…
The Court throws a bone to the NRA in the first paragraph, calling it "dedicated to the rights of Americans to safely use firearms." That's the last compliment, however, and almost feels ironic.
The Court recites the history of the NY Complaint: 1) NRA receives notice that it's under investigation; 2) NRA hires counsel and CFO to investigate whether it is within NY non-profit law. Instead of immediately cleaning up, NRA files suit against NY, the Governor and the AG
In July, 2018, whistleblowers come forward to say that Senior (LaPierreists) Management have conflicts of interest; override internal spending controls; favor vendors over the NRA (see add thread above); make improper expense reimbursements; and enter into improper vehicle leases
The biggest vendor issue is with Ackerman McQueen, and results in 3 cases in Virginia and one federal Court in Texas. AMcQ and LaPierre having been robbing the NRA (and it's members) blind for DECADES.
LaPierre has a small circle of minions who help with the grift - named in the NY AG's suit against it.
The core grifters chase out all honest people; intimidate where they can and generally operate the NRA is their little private fiefdom.
The NY AG's complaint asked that LaPierre and chief minion Frazer be banned for life, and sought to claw back fraudulent payments to LaPierre and his minions.
In a beautiful piece of tease, the Court notes that the NRA formed a committee to analyze the NYAG's complaint and to consider whether LaPierre had a conflict, and also gave LaPierre some weired powers to reorganize. You can guess what happened next.
I wanted to follow the decision, but I had to skip ahead because I know this from press reports. LaPierre - the Vice President - DID NOT CONSULT THE BOARD OR GET PERMISSION FROM THE PRESIDENT - he alone decided to file for bankruptcy in TX.
You don't have to know too much about corporate form and organization to know it is highly unusual for the Vice President to decide to file for bankruptcy in a distant state, without board or Pres approval, while under investigation by a special committee for violating corp norms
If you dig this kind of thing - I always appreciate a follow. I try to give thoughtful commentary on legal issues. You can also follow my band and songwriting account @dirkandthetruth
After LaPierre decided to file bankruptcy on his own sole authority ... the NRA and it's counsel then went on a long, detailed and deeply stupid effort to create a non-LaPierre reason ... the Court didn't buy it - rightly deciding it was to avoid the NYAG's oversight authority.
The Court found that the bankruptcy filing was a bad faith effort to avoid NY's inherent authority to DISSOLVE the NRA. (The NRA was formed under NY law, and exists only because NY allows it to)
The Court specifically found that using bankruptcy to avoid being DISSOLVED under NY law is not lawful.
BOTTOM LINE: Wayne LaPierre filed a bad faith bankruptcy in TX to avoid having the NRA disolved in NY. AND HE LOST LIKE THE LOSER HE IS.
Wayne LaPierre, you have been adjudged a shocking cheat and liar @TrueFactsStated
AND A WARNING: LaPierre is a PoS, but all y'all stink like a pig sty. Don't tempt me MFers.

Let me expand/extrapolate/speculate about this hugely important detail noted by Marcy @emptywheel. A thread.

And here's a gift link to the article. wapo.st/46Fok0Y
The critical details in the article are that: 1) The Trump campaign was hacked earlier in the summer, but did not report that to the FBI; 2) Microsoft announced that a US campaign was hacked, confirmed to be Trump; 3) hacker has Vance doc (done by Brand Woodward) and COURT DOCS
This brings us to Marcy's point: Brand Woodward represents Ralph Nauta, the Trump "valet" who was charged with moving the stolen national security documents for Trump to help evade the FBI. His attorney, Stan Woodward has clearance to see EVERYTHING.

The more I think about this, the more it seems like a key to whole evil puzzle. Just at face value, it's a big deal that crypto/gambling interests have an incentive to make the election INTO A HORSE RACE.

coindesk.com/business/2024/…
And we have all been asking, WHY DOES IT SEEM LIKE THE MEDIA TREATS THESE EXISTENTIAL ISSUES LIKE A HORSE RACE? And we didn't have a ready answer, But here's a possible answer: crypto/gaming interests are buying political media figures.
Now the possibility that someone was paying journalists to undermine democracy had certainly occurred to me, but it was hard to believe that everyone could be taking Putin money. But they could be taking gambling/crypto money.

Dear US Press, I know you are busy normalizing the completely radical, dangerous people at the RNC convention, but We The People have some goddamn questions, and y'all should investigate: A thread:
First, instead of droning about the shooter's motive, ASK HOW WE CAME TO A PLACE WHERE A 20 YO CAN POSSESS AN AR-15?
Second, let's have a REAL TALK about the injury suffered by Trump. Were there any? Y'all have apparently asked every no name Dem on the planet about Biden. Where is the curiosity about Trump?

Since I am on the topic of the national security implications of the capture of Justice Thomas and the Crow family, I thought I would take a peek into that case and the Crow family.
So Harlan Crow is a kingmaker in Texas. Senators go to his house to get sworn in; he owns a SCOTUS justice; he has his fingers in TX politics. Presumably a lot of this is bribery. BUT HIS BROTHER HAS AN EPSTEIN STYLE KOMPROMAT OPERATION. Let's examine that. Image
First, we know about this kompromat operation because two brave women and their lawyers filed a RICO case against Trammell Crow, Jr. and others for running a sex trafficking ring. The case was filed in CA, but later transferred to TX, where it is now. Image

So let's get this straight. Justice Thomas went to Russia, in secret, with Harlan Crow. The trip included a helicopter ride to a palace in St. Petersburg. It took place in 2003. This is the first known yacht trip. Let's examine the implications. A thread.
First, a rich american with a SCOTUS justice doesn't just show up unannounced and fly a helicopter into St. Petersburg. That shxt requires advanced notice and clearance AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL - so at minimum Putin and the Kremlin spy and kompromat operatives knew about this.
The Kremlin would also know that Thomas failed to disclose the trip on mandatory reports - so they knew in 2003 that Thomas could be bribed and was willing to lie to the US government. They knew in 2003 they had leverage over a SCOTUS justice.

OK, listen, when the Trump DOJ got a search warrant for Epstein's property, THEY DIDN'T ASK TO SEIZE ELECTRONIC MEDIA INCLUDING HARD DRIVES AND CDs.

SO THEY LEFT IT ALL IN PLACE AND SOMEONE STOLE IT WHILE THEY GOT ANOTHER WARRANT.

yahoo.com/news/fbi-agent…

When the agent got a warrant, SHE CALLED EPSTEIN'S LAWYER AND HE HAD THE HARD DRIVES. Image
During the same period of time that the hard drives were stolen, ALL CAREFULLY ORGANIZED NOTEBOOKS FULL OF CDs WERE LEFT UNATTENDED. Image
