Even some of Greene's GOP colleagues shied away from answering questions about that interaction. For their part, Democrats sounded like they were flabbergasted.
"I was relieved before this," said Rep John Yarmuth, who as Budget chair would have had to work with Greene had she not lost her work assignments. "As far as I can tell, she's here for all the wrong reasons. She is here just to make a show of herself. She's here for the theater."
On Thursday, a day after her exchange with Green, @AOC told Insider in a brief interview that she hadn't spoken with the freshman Republican again. When asked to detail what happened, the progressive Democrat threw up her hands and replied, "I mean, this is who she is."
Rep. Brendan Boyle: "You have crazy extreme voices like Marjorie Taylor Greene & unfortunately others especially on the far right who now want to emulate her but the amount of attention they get relative to their actual impact on legislation or policy is completely out of whack"
Boyle also lamented how stripping Greene of her committee assignments appeared to have done little to detract her. "In many ways, it's an imperfect tool because it's not like it's taking away something she cared that much about," the Pennsylvania Democrat said.
Rep. Barbara Lee, a Democrat of California, said she was "absolutely" relieved she wouldn't be working on the House Budget Committee with Greene. But as Insider began to ask additional questions, she put up her hands up and said, "No more."
A progressive House member refused to be interviewed on the matter. "I do not want my name and this woman's name ever associated together, so I would rather not say anything," she told Insider.
Some Republicans were hesitant to discuss the latest incident involving Greene and Ocasio-Cortez. Rep. Michael Burgess, a Republican of Texas, told Insider he had not seen any news articles about it.
When asked about what he thought of not being able to work with Greene on the House Education and Labor Committee, Rep. Madison Cawthorn, a Republican of North Carolina, said this week that he did not take questions from reporters in the halls of Capitol Hill.
Insider caught up with Cawthorn again outside the Capitol a day later. He clarified he "almost always" didn't do hallway interviews. Asked whether he wanted to defend Greene, he turned around & headed away from the Capitol. "That was a really good try, though," he said.
Rep. Glenn Grothman, a Republican from Wisconsin, would have worked with Greene on both her House committees had she not been removed from them. He told Insider he thought it was good for members to be unafraid of leadership and special interests and compared Greene to Trump.
"There has always been a lack of free spirits in Congress," Grothman said. "And if a free spirit gets in here who is not afraid of leadership or the special interests — you might not agree with her on individual issues, but it's always good for the institution."
He added: "Everybody follows the leader. Marjorie is not a follow-the-leader type of person."

NEW: Democrats don't want to say Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's name. Even some Republicans feel the same way.

In just four months, the firebrand Georgia Republican has established herself as something of a Voldemort on Capitol Hill. by @leonardkl ($)

Mention her, and she gets only stronger. Ignore her, and pray that bad things don't happen. Indeed, House members recently interviewed by @thisisinsider said they were sick of answering questions about one of their newest colleagues.
Many said they were relieved they didn't have to work with her after the House's mostly party-line vote in February stripped her of assignments on the House Budget and Education and Labor committees.

SCOOP: Joel Greenberg will plead guilty to 6 felony counts including sex trafficking, identity theft, & wire fraud, a big downgrade from the 33 federal charges he was facing, ⁦@thisisinsider⁩ has learned. By ⁦@cdechalus⁩ & ⁦@sonam_shethbusinessinsider.com/gaetz-associat…
Greenberg is scheduled to appear in court Monday morning to formalize the plea agreement w/ DOJ prosecutors, who are investigating whether he & Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida violated federal sex-trafficking laws. A judge will have to sign off on the agreement before it is finalized.
Feds initially charged Greenberg last June; after superseding indictment the total hit 33 felony counts incldg sex trafficking, stalking, & cryptocurrency fraud. But a source familiar w/ the plea deal said the ex-FLA local tax collector would admit in court to 6 of the charges.

NEW: A coalition of anti-Trump Republicans is threatening a move that could upend US politics. Their message comes straight out of the last 6 chaotic years & boils down to this: Abandon Trump or they'll form an alternative party. @thisisinsider ($) businessinsider.com/anti-trump-rep…
But the prospect of a splinter GOP isn't sitting well with some Rs who spoke w/ @thisisinsider this week & warned of dire consequences from a further fracturing of a party that's already divided by 1 wing's loyalty to Trump & another's quest to return to the politics of Reagan.
"Having three parties in this country would make it very difficult to get a working majority in the Senate and House," said Sen. Chuck Grassley, who said fracturing the GOP would make an already dysfunctional Congress even worse. "It'd be a wrong thing to do."

NEW: Marjorie Taylor Green has time on her hands w/o committee assignments. But she’s still 2021's top fundraiser among House GOP members. The more than $3.2M she raised in first Q ranks her 2nd in the House behind only Pelosi. ⁦@thisisinsider⁩ ($)

That’s per federal campaign finance data compiled by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics, @davelevinthal reports. Until now, no member of the House, save for those running in a special election, has raised so much money during the 1st quarter of a non-election year.
"It's a staggering number," said former Rep. Reid Ribble, a Republican who represented Wisconsin's 8th District from 2011 to 2017. "I couldn't raise $3 million in an entire election cycle."

NEW: Unlike Trump, who religiously played golf at his namesake courses & did not regularly attend church while in office, Biden can usually be found on weekends at either St. Joseph on the Brandywine in Delaware or DC's Holy Trinity Catholic Church. ($) businessinsider.com/biden-catholic…
Biden has called his faith "the bedrock foundation of my life." But church is both a source of comfort and controversy. His longstanding support for abortion rights is renewing criticism & debate now that he's president on whether he should be allowed to receive Communion.
The pastor at Holy Trinity where Biden goes has also received more than 125 emails, letters, and phone calls from people outside the church protesting the president receiving Communion because of his abortion stance.

NEW: The second Catholic US president has attended church services at least 15 times since taking office. By ⁦@ngaudiano⁩ ($) ⁦@thisisinsiderbusinessinsider.com/biden-catholic…
Lede: President Joe Biden usually slips into the back pews of the mid-19th-century Catholic church during the priest's entrance procession. He genuflects, hugs his grandchildren when they're there, receives Communion, and typically leaves before other parishioners.
But Biden also stayed late on two recent occasions, according to the Rev. Kevin Gillespie, the pastor at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Washington's posh Georgetown neighborhood.
