Much diplomacy ahead of today's back-to-back meetings of UN Security Council and General Assembly to address the situation in East Jerusalem and Gaza. As always I am not seeing much reporting in Western media of reactions outside US & Europe. Here's a range of statements. 1/9
Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs has declared that Palestinians are 'subjected to ethnic, religious and cultural cleansing' and Turkey 'will forever stand by Palestinian brothers & sisters in their fight for freedom & dignity' 2/9
Pakistan PM has 'expressed concerns on the latest situation in Palestine and condemned Israeli Forces' heinous attack during the month of Ramazan on the Palestinians in and outside #AlAqsaMosque, defying all norms of humanity and international law' 3/9
Turkey and Pakistan have 'vowed to work together especially at the United Nations in jointly mobilizing the international community to help stop these attacks' 4/9
Indonesian President Joko Widodo has declared: 'Indonesia strongly condemns Israeli’s attacks which has resulted in the loss of lives of hundreds, including women and children. Israel aggression must be put to a stop' 5/9
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar has publicly met with Head of Political Bureau of Hamas 6/9
Turkish TV station TRT World has circulated a clip of responses from nine 'Muslim countries': Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Pakistan, UAE, Iran, Malaysia, Indonesia 7/9
Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu claims Israel is acting in 'self defence' and has 15 states supporting that position, including Australia 8/9
US President Biden has 'reaffirmed his strong support for Israel's right to defend itself against rocket attacks from Hamas and other terrorist groups in Gaza' 9/9
China holds the presidency of the UN Security Council for May and is pushing for the Council to take action on Gaza
Tunisian President has ‘declared that Tunisia’s position regarding the #AlAksaMosque aggression goes beyond condemnation, stating that it will spare no effort to stand by the Palestinian people’
Tunisian permanent mission to the UN has ‘conducted intense diplo discussions’ including w/ Palestine, Algeria, Egypt, Turkey, Indonesia + Council members on ‘Intl actions against aggression in Palestine & Gaza in Security Council and UN General Assembly’
The Bosnian President has said ‘Bosnia and Herzegovina does not and cannot support the killings of innocent civilians of Gaza’ and called on Israel to stop the attacks.
In SC meeting, India expressed 'deep concern at violence in #Jerusalem, Haram Al Sharif/Temple Mount, & eviction in #SheikhJarrah', condemned attacks from & retaliation into Gaza, called for immediate deescalation & no unilateral change in status quo
