@nicolelampert ‘Proportional’ is a misnomer, it doesn’t mean ‘like for like’ It means the required amount of force for any country to keep its own civilians safe. So if Israel bombed Gaza indiscriminately killing thousands of civilians...
@nicolelampert Which other countries have been seen to do, they would be condemned, quite rightly for a lack of ‘proportionality’. Because they use military intelligence to identify where the missiles launchers, factories, arms caches, underground tunnels, engineers, Hamas commanders....
@nicolelampert Are, they target those terrorist infrastructures. Sadly, these are sited in multi occupation buildings, like the Press building yesterday, schools, hospitals, residential areas, not because Gaza is crowded, there are still open spaces, but because #terrorists want to exploit.....
@nicolelampert Their civilians as well as Israeli civilians. In addition Israel does warn of air attacks, another element of ‘proportionality’ by phoning, leafleting and sending a warning ‘knock on the roof’. Hamas tries to sabotage this by threatening civilians....
@nicolelampert And telling them they should be prepared to die for their ‘cause’ As the Hamas missiles are still being fired a ‘proportional’ response is still urgently needed. Until the missiles stop. One in four Hamas missiles explode in Gaza, killing more civilians.
