The K-13 is a semi-active radar and Infrared homing air to air missile. Analogus the M-21 and F-7Ni fighter. Its similar in appearance and capability to the American AIM 9 missile. Some say the technology was by the Soviets via espionage. Who knows.
The K-13 has a 13 kg high explosive bursting charge warhead that creates a cloud of sharp debris. It features a proximity fuse operates from a distance of 15 m from the target.
Upon ignition, the rocket motor launches the missile to speeds in excess of Mach 2 within a few seconds. The missile then travels to the target via glide and inertia, giving it increasingly less speed and maneuverability over distance.
